Anyone know anything about Alessandra Biaggi? She's challenging Klein. There's canvassing scheduled for her in my neighborhood today. Her website has her as anti-IDC but everything else on there seems uninspiring, and she also worked for Crowley, Hillary, and Cuomo.

Oh lmao she's Mario Biaggi's grandaughter, a cop and politician convicted of corruption. I guess she checks the most important box of "not Klein."

Yeah. She's young and seems hot off the dynastic politician production press but I'm going to vote for her. I live in Pelham and she is tight with our local Democratic group but even here it seems nobody has much sense of her beneath the "no IDC" message / as a human being.

if I've learned anything from the past couple of years, you don't need experience or relevant skills to hold public office and in fact lacking them may be a benefit

I've been coming around on Gillibrand from a "she's ok I guess, especially for a New York dem" perspective but Lehman Sisters was just dumb as gently caress, but at least it was just a dumb thing she said and not like a yes vote for whatever Trump approved monster comes before the senate. That being said I'm willing to give her a 1-time mulligan if she at least continues to vote correctly.

i'm not as perturbed at the prospect of another 'bad dem' president as some ppl since then at least ppl will feel compelled to organize independently of the campaign apparatus, whereas with, say, a president sanders, all the left-liberal energy will go to defending the sitting US president. and recent events have shown that sitting dem officeholders can respond to independent organizing pressure ~ even sitting gop officeholders as in the wake of the teachers' strikes

she backed cuomo over nixon, that is a far worse thing than anything she has said or done.

she was also a blue dog when she was my representative. i have no faith at all that she is the progressive she pretends to be.

i think the only two options for progressive democrats is to hope and pray for president sanders, or hope and pray for their chosen centrist candidate to lose bigly to trump and for the blue wave to not happen this year. and well, the blue wave is in serious jeopardy since the democrats have been sabotaging progressives and backing ex-intelligence officers and even anti-abortion dems, so hey.

It's a very Putin-esque move where Cuomo doesn't have to come out and say it, but his underlings, Nassau Dem chairman for one, taking their own initiative to fulfill his assumed wishes. It's a terrible model for governance and is very Don-like in its attempt to escape culpability while exacting tribute and loyalty.

I'm hoping that one of the progressive candidates gets it in this district (which is mine) because gently caress Faso right in the butt. I don't know though, there are a lot of chuds out in the boondocks of the district, and I'm not sure Kingston can carry it, especially if they start pulling out the socialist carpetbagger stuff on whoever gets the nomination. Got my fingers crossed though.

She owes her career to the WFP. Their endorsement put her over the top when she ran for city council in the district now held by Laurie Cumbo. From there she went on to become public advocate. So her buckling to Cuomo's tyranny is even more of a shock than Gillibrand making an idpol remark regarding finance. And I'm not exaggerating with "tyranny" either, he's like Trump but competent.
This has been the case nationwide. In New York, D-trippers put Juanita Perez Williams, a pro-life Dem who ran for Syracuse mayor and lost, up in that district at the very last minute over the objections of the local party and the progressive candidate. Now it's a three-way primary, and as we saw in Pennsylvania last night, the crap tends to rise to the top when there are more people in the race. I don't need to go into what's happened everywhere else because there's another thread for that.

When I say that Gillibrand is a blatant opportunist who turns with the political winds, this is what I mean. It looked like actual leftie policy was gonna be big in the middle of last year, so she was all for that at the time. But when DCCC is saying otherwise, she'll go with that. She's still better than a Cuomo, who is an arch-corporate Democrat who will never ever compromise on that position, but she's insincere.

She's pressureable, which means that she's better to have with a progressive Congress that an actual Cuomo. That being said, Cuomo is basically letting Nixon set his agenda now, so I'm not sure what's going on with him.

The State University of New York expects to save $250,000 a year by purchasing the Citizens Bank building in downtown Albany. Purchase price is $1.35 million.

Buffalo, NY (WBEN) - The Buffalo School Board member who took the ousted Carl Paladino's seat has resigned from her position in protest after the Board's vote to switch nursing providers.

Catherine Flanagan-Priore resigned in a closed session, the Buffalo School Board confirmed to WBEN. Flanagan-Priore had earlier recused herself from the board's vote to replace Kaleida nurses with nurses from Sunbelt Staffing and Supplemental Healthcare because she is also a Kaleida employee, working as a pediatric psychologist at Children's Hospital.

Flanagan-Priore replaced Paladino as the Board member for the Park district in September.
