Chinese place in my town got shut down with a health report so bad it made the news. The next day the entire building was surrounded by construction fencing and boarded up. A health inspection so bad they're gutting/demolishing the entire building.

Not really OSHA related, but I just wanted to complain about how lovely the power infrastructure is here. Our MRI unit is constantly having problems with software corruption and hardware failure. Had to call the field service engineer today. He's been coming to our site at least once a week and this was the third time this week. The problem this time was that all of the post processing programs were deactivated somehow. The only solution that GE knew of was to format and reinstall. Again. The dude showed me the remote RMS monitor app on his phone and one of the phases dumped down to 128 volts. I aint no electricalman, but I know that 128 isn't anywhere near 480. I personally blame our company for being too cheap to buy a UPS or I don't know upgrade our loving equipment that is 15 years old and probably doesn't have fancy power things that safeguard against this stuff?

They just abuse service contracts instead of investing in protection for the equipment. On our nuc med camera I asked the service guy why we couldn't just get a UPS so we'd stop having issues from the constant power outages. He said they tried to sell them on a UPS but corporate balked at the gargantuan cost of $5,000. At the time, he wasn't under contract, so each visit was billable. Minimum $1,000 a visit, not including the price of the chip boards that were probably last manufactured 20 years ago. shame on an IGA posted:I'd be way, way more concerned about the motors and giant gently caress off million dollar electromagnets than the electronics in that scenario Hmm the service engineer hasn't ever mentioned anything about things in the magnet itself. I don't know a drat thing about the guts other than there is liquid helium somewhere and electricity going around some cold wires and loud noises come out and the chiller goes chirp chirp chirp. Maybe he doesn't want to frighten our simple minds. I just know I spend an awful lot of time having to reset the circuit breaker on the Power Distribution Unit after an abrupt and unexpected hard shutdown. Yeah, that is more like 12-24 hours depending on heating/cooking types. 7 days is based on getting power from panels every day.

Risk wreaking multi-million dollar equipment over $5000 dollars. This checks out. You can be saving them a substantial amount of money with a little upfront cost but because it is an absence of cost it's not counted mentally as addition profit. This happens even though you demonstrate this to people no matter the organization. It can happen even when you help an individual make their lives easier at no cost retorting "That's how I have always done it". It's like trying to punch the stupid out of people.Baronjutter posted:Chinese place in my town got shut down with a health report so bad it made the news. I recall a game that did that if you let things get too far. I think it was Sim tower when a hotel room didn't get cleaned a cycle or two would force you to demolish it to get the space back. Disgusting Chinese restaurants are everywhere but there are so many of them here no one sane would go to a visibly dirty restaurant with a D-F grade along with a list of violations on the door. It was bad enough that the neighbouring shops stepped up their pest protection as it impacted their grading when bugs showed up. They simply went out of business in the end and I don't think the owners ever figure out why they didn't have any customers even after the second chance they got. No mysterious flaming car.

cakesmith handyman posted:I don't believe for a second Texas had anything without incident Yeah there's been a few incidents at safari parks in Texas: https://bigcatrescue.org/big-cat-attacks-before-2000/ .... but from a quick scan it looks like most of the attacks were due to privately owned big cats getting loose or people sticking their arms into cages at animal refuges/backyard breeders. Not to defend people acting dumb at safari parks but it looks like Texans are slightly more likely to get mauled by a lion suddenly appearing in their own backyard which is terrifying but also weirdly hilarious.
