They were probably painted by his son. Since they're from baller early 90s Armourcast I'd say they those paint jobs were pretty good for the time.

Steel Legion I dunno about the helmet, has more lip than the fallschirmjager helmet, but isn't shaped 1:1 like much else. Officers have Stahlhelms with full skirt and skull motif.
