There has to be a certain amount of differences in order to get around the law. The gundam ko guys got busted last year for making 1:1 copies.

Actually, the busted company was Dragon Momoko, who made the more unique Gunpla. It's Daban who 95% of the time makes 1:1 copies, and is supposedly the ones responsible for ratting out DM.

Eh well I only vaguely paid attention to that. But a lot of Ko companies have changed course because of poo poo like that. Wei Jiang is moving into original stuff more and more now and leaving the 1:1 stuff to an offshoot company.

Jizai CAD designs and prototypes don't necessarily mean anything is getting made. There were prototypes for the Function-X line in 2012/13 and FansProject decided to... whatever they did... Instead.
