Jesus Christ, look at the litlest Rogue Trader there. And AoS is in on the action. We need a junior Stormcast who had his tiny soul reforged by Sigmar after he died defending his family from Khorne Blood Warriors with a rusty hoe.

I mean, AoS is clearly intended for young people so I am not surprised by that. Genuinely surprised by a 40k young adult treatment.

The illustrations look more like a kid book than YA. For YA, you could just take all ye Mazerunners, Hunger Games and so on, and just port them to 40K. Just make the protag end up as an Inquisitor or whatever in the end.

BULBASAUR posted:I mean, AoS is clearly intended for young people so I am not surprised by that. Genuinely surprised by a 40k young adult treatment. It’s a decent idea. I remember devouring 40K fiction and comics 20+ years ago. But I wouldn’t want my children reading something like Nemesis - it gets a bit grisly in parts with all the detailed descriptions of flayed flesh. Children can handle grimdark. Just not maybe seven pages of how chunks of this dude’s flesh were all over the wine warehouse. Separate line makes sense.

E is for Emperor, but his name should be first. F is for Flamer, which makes fire really burst. G is for Great Crusade, the stars it will traverse, H is for Horus, whose name we all must curse. I is for Imperium, its foes we all inveigh. J is for Jump-pack, flying upon its way. K is for Knight, a big walking machine, L is for Leman Russ, a shaggy Space Marine. M is for Mechanicum, whose gears are made of gold, N is for Necrons, who all are very old. P is for Primarch, are there twenty or eighteen? Q is for Q’Orl, and the Eldar stole their queen. R is for Recaf, which gives you the worst breath, S is for Sisters, they’ll melta you to death. T is for Tyranids, don’t ask them out to lunch, U is for Ultrimar, upon which they did munch. V is for Vulkan, his armor ironclad, W is for Warp, a place we all go mad. X is for Xenos, the scum that all must die, Y is for Yarrick, who kills orks with his eye. JBP posted:Did anyone here not become attracted to 40k as a stupid ten year old? There was no 40K when I was 10. Yeah, I'm old. I took it up when I was in the military, as it was popular when we were stateside. I did old-school hex-and-counter wargames before that, and built my fair share of model planes/cars/tanks as a kid. I dropped out of 40K when I got out of the service, but (see below). Safety Factor posted:If hamdads want to bond with their kids over a shared love of hams, it's alright by me. It's totally an indoctrination tool. I do with my son, who is 11. I'm mostly a Historicals player (hey, I already said I'm old) but I've taken up the way of 30K/40K again as an excuse to build models with my kid. My mum bought me the 2nd edition box (and shortly after that Dark Millennium) when I was like 11-12 and I ended up trading everything in it for Eldar then making GBS threads on all of my friends with Eldrad Ulthran every single game.

I was like 19 when I played Dawn of War. Bulbasaur was in a physics class with me and we’d talk about playing the vidya at lunch. One week we agreed that it was time to start playing the tabletop game at the hobby shop. That was about 12 years ago.

I first caught sight of 40k via Dawn of War, not even playing it (PC was garbage at the time), I was just really into nontraditional(i.e less resource grinding) RTS games and heard about a cool squad based RTS where you can "paint" your mans

I was like 10 or 11 and there was an advert for it in a magazine I was leafing through. I showed it to my mom and she called my dad and he bought it for me that Christmas. That was the terrible space marine/dark eldar starter with the landspeeder.

The problem is 10/12 year old me never would of got into 40k with it looking like a children's book. I wanted the bolter porn, blood, gore and grim dark metalness that came with it from the beginning. Kids these days would want cartoon 40k because they are soft and fragile and think guns are bad.

I played 40k as a kid, but I never listened to metal or cared for edgy poo poo. I liked painting and hobbies and as I got into my teens I found the setting extremely funny with all the 2000AD inspired horseshit and extremely opaque Catholic space Nazis.

I first caught a wiff of 40kays when I read Space Marine at school. I didn't like it too much, but it had memorable bits. Then Dawn of War dropped in 2004 and it was the poo poo. I spent so much time just reading the fluff on the old side. Got my first snapfit Marines when a friend bought me a paint/dood kit in Sweden. Didn't have money for the stuff until... 2013 or so, when I was living in Japan. I now have more than 2.5k pts of Marines, poo poo on Hams every time I can, more than 1k pts of loyalist DG, a metal Guard SWA team, a CSM SWA team, an unbuilt Goliath, built and painted Eschers and Goliaths for NM17, half painted Orc BB gang, a painted 5 point SAGA Viking warband, two 500pts BA armies, 50 pts of 6mm Soviets for FoW (hopefully NORTHAG) and just a lot of crap in general. Halp.
