Boobs are not scary at all when they're on an Elder Scrolls elf woman with horns and claws and a tail.

Seriously, the more I look at the succubus girls and hear their dialogue, the more I'm just sitting here thinking "what traumatic incident has made the guy who wrote this literally consider the barely-altered female form as horrifying?"

Every single demoness in Agony so far looks like they were made for those horrifying SFM porn videos. Every time they pop up I'm waiting for one of them to just have a huge dick for no reason.

gently caress, at least that might be interesting compared to yet another "sexy woman but with horns and claws" 40k-chaos-Daemonette ripoff.

Note: I'm sure this already exists, please let me live in happy ignorance

Yes, I'm arguing for the presence of more dick in this game; tits in horror are boring, bring on the horror-cock

I'm concerned that depictions of nudity in most horror games, though not all, are ethically fraught, and aren't usually worth it for whatever they're supposed to provide. I mean, if you're making Silent Hill 2, ok, sure, that's definitely arguable, but 95% of the time female nudity is straight up "ooh sexy" and male nudity seems freighted with some sort of rape imagery. Outlast is, uh, a pretty good example here. I care quite a bit about how gender is depicted in games, and outlast is just, eurgh.

Yeah like 100+ hours person here, I've seen a whopping 1 hacker and a handful of people who bugged out mostly on accident and a couple douches on purpose, it's definitely an overblown issue. On that wider front though yeah a lot MP horror games have come and gone, Damned is dead, the thing that was really similar to Damned I forget is dead, White Noise is dead, Deceit is alive because they had the sense to restart as a free game with cosmetics and it's fun enough now, DbD practically only persists because of sunk cost and so people can gang up and abuse the lone player, F13 doesn't have a massive playerbase but it's plenty more than enough to find games at any time, people are putting a lot of stock into Last Year coming out soon but the devs seem crummy and go radio silent for long spans at a time so I'm waiting to see on it, hopefully that turns out fun.

Also Agony's problem is the same gripe I had with Outlast 2, shock gets trite pretty quick in a game, "Yep there's another trench full of burned bodies, oh another group of skinned and crucified people how novel, ah yes some more of sexual assault monster who's definitely handled very well and not fuckin moronically, great I love it." like your game either needs to be SHORT so everything doesn't wear thin, needs to be a really diverse experience so you're not seeing the same atrocities on repeat, needs to have something really compelling so the whole game isn't just the samey atrocity tourism, but they never learn from this stuff.

I wonder if it's even possible to make an effective horror game that can maintain tension for 20+ hours. The common complaint about Alien: Isolation is that it went on for too long and that was what, a ~12-14 hour campaign?

I've wanted someone to make a "driving horror" game for years now and today I learned that not only is one in active development, it's one of the most beautiful/atmospheric games I've ever seen: Beware.

That's a problem that's far from unique to horror, most other games fall apart at that time frame as well. I think they just have to try and make a single game that contains multiple shorter stories as separate campaigns instead of a single one containing everything they want to cram into it.

Isolation's problem isn't so much "It went on too long" by actual length, it was that the end of the game felt really padded out and like it had parts tacked on purely to add time, like I could pretty vividly walk you through a bunch of that game, but there's a slump somewhere around the last good chunk where everything becomes run-together because all I remember was "Now go here again, back through here again, more synthetic guys, even more synthetic guys, back through there" and then the ending.

Why can you not just wait until they get out of their car and then run them over as they approach? At that point you're probably justified after the clear attacks on your vehicle.

Well they better think about the stuff we've said then. Plenty of horror stuff completely fucks itself on the development process, look at that one cool black and white game about exploring and crafting between shockwaves that you need to take shelter from that got turned into an arena shooter and had all the survival elements removed.

From the steam reviews:
"As of its latest patch, Noct no longer has a tutorial or campaign, and as a result has no scripted scares nor gameplay goals. It can still be played solo or online. Regardless as to how you choose to play, Noct can be summed up in one word: empty. The map is large and filled with empty placeholder buildings. Sprinting is extremely limited, so you cannot simply run from one landmark to another. There are no objectives and enemies can easily be defeated our outrun, making the "survival" aspect of the game rather bland."

It's the "As of its latest patch" that blows my loving mind. They took the game out of the game.

Side note: guy who linked the driving game, that game could actually turn out loving awesome and I'll be paying attention to it in the future.

Oooooh yeah, I'm a little familiar with Noct's (d)evolution. Man, the fact that this game has been in EA since 2015 wouldn't be TOO bad, but I think the last patch was released well over a year ago (followed by 5 or 6 announcements of the subsequent patch being delayed over and over again)...and the last news post was from over 6 months ago. This definitely has all the makings of a game being developed by somebody who is stalling because they had a kernel of a great idea but no larger vision regarding what they wanted the game to ultimately be. This is like the game-developer equivalent of when Ashlee Simpson's song started repeating live during her SNL performance, and she panicked and just started dancing.

From the looks of it if you stop the enemy pulls out in front of you before hopping out. Not an issue against one car but two cars will box you in which appears to happen in the video. And you do see the player ram an enemy from behind and they go spinning out.

I think that game's doomed as part of the Yume Nikki series simply because the devs think the original game was a horror game in the first place. It's like saying LSD is a horror game, and if there was an LSD 2 where all it was was hiding from the gray man, it'd be missing the point just as much :v:
