Veering wildly back to crosswalk chat, the main street in my town has two mid-block, no light crosswalks, street parking within 5 feet of the crosswalks limiting drivers' vision of people entering them until far too late, and one of which is directly across the street from luxury apartments for people too rich and self-entitled to need to look both ways before crossing the street. Going the posted speed limit doesn't give enough time to break if someone walks into the crosswalk confident that no one would hit them because hitting them is illegal. I almost creamed Santa last holiday season because he was behind a legally parked SUV and stepped out about a second before I could see him. The schad's on drivers by the city planning office. And I guess any pedestrians who don't get it that just because it's illegal to run them down doesn't mean it won't hurt. mobby_6kl posted:A cat being put in its place. You monster.

It's a speed limit, not a recommended speed. Driving to the road conditions is a pretty key skill for any driver. Here at least you can get a speeding ticket for driving well within the speed limit but too fast for the road conditions. You know what the crossing is like so if you drive too quickly to stop in time that's pretty much the definition of dangerous driving.

As a life long pedestrian I have no faith in the ability of drivers. I don't cross the road without looking both ways several times, and again while I am actively crossing the road. If you're on the phone and just make a mad dash across the road, you're asking to be hit.
