To the tune of $500 million in damages. And they are a major figure in law firms that deal with international contract law.

If your design process was to throw poo poo at the wall and then find out that nothing stuck, throwing more poo poo isn't going to fix things. You should have had this poo poo designed before you wrote a single line of code; you should have had a prototype before you even had programmer art. Finishing everything else first and then deciding, hey, let's overhaul the fundamental gameplay because it turned out to be poo poo, pretty much never works, no matter how many overhauls you try

Of course, I'm talking about indie-developed early access games here, not a $180M AAAA extravaganza headed by a superstar genius developer. No one of that caliber could ever make such an amateurish mistake

Having worked in the industry for many years now, I have seen some serious poo poo that makes the CIG whales look like chump change. This includes people that spend close to a grand a day, or drop a hundred dollars literally every time they log into their game of choice. 190 million dollars in 6-7 years isn't anything to scoff at, but successful free to play mobile and even some PC games would laugh at those numbers and start laying people off.

And the PVP community in Elite is frankly so small that after awhile it got boring seeing the same two dozen commanders. After a point no one even bothered to to interdict each other. The major problem with PVP in Elite is there really isn't much to actually fight over. Nothing has a dramatic impact on the game world. It's not like you can attack a station and take it over for your faction and the output of that station, or taxes collected, etc. make something for the organization. Really that's the major problem with Elite as a whole.

It was why I backed Star Citizen initially over Elite as that was what the MMO portion of the game was supposed to offer was some kind of objectives that guilds could fight over such as factories. Now when it came time to try and spell out how that was going to work with instancing we were told we were concern trolls or something instead of getting answers.

Its just space dreams with the Idris' CIC and the Superhornet Hornet RIO seat (anyone?). CR promises that players will have some kinda fleet / squad management interface that would make EVE online's archaic FC role in mumble obsolete. But none of that has ever seen any community engagement / testing and is probably still in the development pipeline clogging the ship pipline which is clogging the gravity goo that's supposed the continually support the frabric of the verse.

I'll wait for Elite to announce their Squadron update and what that entails, with us being able to hire a mobile base of operations would make life easier. The double edged sword of Elite's 1:1 universe is that hooking up to play with friends in your own ship is tedious as gently caress and completely unnecessary. 41 hops to pick up your ship and another 40 (because its a combat fit and you can't jump that far) to group up is just insane.

A constellation is $250, multiple that for 3 and that's $750 worth of JPEG for 60 hours of "work". At $12.50 an hour forget Chinese farmers, you'll have Swiss ones multiboxing the poo poo out of the game. Sure, they won't be able to get full prize for their wares but the result is the same anyways: nobody will buy at the official store.

I have about 1,100 hours in Europa Universalis 4. I enjoyed the game so much it convinced me to fly out to Sweden for Paradox con. I got a cool goody bag, went to the bar with two real game devs, and had a great time. For the cost of a Javelin or so I had a 4 day trip to Stockholm for 3 and a wicked sweet computer game that I love.

And that means anybody who spent the $250 now is a sucker.

Alternatively, if $250 was worth it, then it'll take more than 60 hours of grinding to earn, which means the game will be horribly pay2win and boring and flop.

Course none of this matters because the game isn't real and never will be.

Pretty much the only ships they've done are ones with only a fighter cockpit or with a sardine can sized corridor (for access to manned turrets or a bunk bed). They've done around three 'big' ships (on the smaller end of big). Going from memory it takes about six months for a small ship, twelve+ months for a moderately large ship, and the aircraft carrier has been worked on in some form for the last five or so years. It takes time to do landing signal offer animations, fidelitous cafeteria food and space floor mopping. It's hard to give a precise timeframe because the scheduled ships never hit their deadlines, get reprioritised out of existence, or release broken and require months of work to fix (and eventually require a complete rework). I think they have roughly half the ships made so far (most of them small ships, and variants of small ships).

Does it say somewhere for sure that if you buy a ship you get the game when its (never) released?

All the faithful keep saying "you can buy the game for just $40 for a starter ship" but the game itself isn't free2play is it? I mean nobody even loving knows.

Although again, there is no game. Or the game is buying ships. So I guess $40 does get you into "the game" in a way...
