But still, in the age of loving trump taking over the republican party democrats aren't doing better. It's amazing.

I still wonder if Hillary was president, would establishment Republicans struggle or thrive since they could now have a common enemy to rally around, and Clinton would just engage in vindication against them. She definitely would have weaponized a lot of things culturally against the republicans same as Trump is doing against democrats

President Obama was wrong about many things (we all are): but he was a decent, thoughtful, intelligent, earnest, honest, human being who truly worked to uplift others.

Jim Webb would not have beaten Donald Trump. (He did beat George Allen though so I love him anyway.)

And then a more palatable version of Trump wins in 2020, though how much of a difference that makes when Trump himself is gonna win in 2020 is neither here nor there. TLDR, the future refused to change.

They WOULD run on legalizing weed, but doing so would take away a great leverage for state races. You pie-in-the-sky types don't understand politics.

Joementum posted:the top two system is a wreck! the top two system is a mess! I think before I could support the top two system locally, I'd have to know what % of the time D-safe districts before the change elected D candidates afterward, and what % of the time R-safe districts elected R candidates afterward, just to know whether the "Dems lose more often because they're worse at rallying around a candidate" idea is true. I was considering the idea of banning members of Congress from fundraising except during the election year, and I found that in my state, state legislators are already banned from fundraising during the legislative session. A former speaker of the Tennessee Senate complained that this puts state legislators at a disadvantage compared to the governor and members of Congress. Lt. Governor Ramsey (R) posted:To tie someone’s hand when they’re in the legislature when they’re running for another office doesn’t seem fair. The governor himself can raise money, if you’re a sitting congressman you can raise money, why shouldn't someone in the legislature, if they’re running for an office also be able to raise money? So that’s something we need to look at seriously. That puts a lot of focus on state legislators vs. incumbent members of Congress, who are only a very tiny fraction of the population, and he's asking the law to be changed in a "but what about me " kind of way. A lot of states across the U.S. either have or are considering banning fundraising during the legislative session. Maybe we should turn Lt. Governor Ramsey's logic on its head and take that to Congress

Welp that’s my story. We also voted Bernie in the primary and Johnson in the general. I laughed when Hillary somehow almost lost my state. One of the safest blue states, because she stopped here once in a plane trip then ran stupid ads about knowing Minnesota.
