How are Goliaths scaled* w/r/t Cadians? Victoria Miniatures' Rough Rider legs are Cadian-scale so I'm wondering if muscle boi torsos on Cadian-scale legs will look weird but the Catachan torsos are just so goddamn bad. :(

*: Hur hur hur, GW "scale"! :smugissar:

E: Never mind, I didn't realize the torsos and legs were single parts. Although they do have a wide stance, it might work for Cold Ones...

As you’ve noted, they are legs and torsos combined - but they are also huge. Big bois indeed.

While this would be cool, their house list is pretty solid already with a bunch of unique weapons. Weirdly, they're missing access to bolt pistols and power picks (except for aberrants) despite both being in the Neophyte kit. I'm not sure where they could take it. Giving them access to bolters and similar weapons would be kind of out of place.

They're a really weird gang to build, honestly. Their champions are T3, W1 though they've got access to some expensive melee weapons. Heavy and special weapons can only go on Neophytes and they're all BS4+, T3, W1 losers with 6+ saves. They do have aberrants which are great, but they carry some big limitations. I plan on using them as a secondary gang after my Orlocks, they're just odd. I think they're in for a particularly rough start with such fragile champions.

I played one game with my GSC vs goliaths and it was tough. You're right that putting expensive weapons on victim stat dudes is tough. My opponent was using stim drugs every turn so I had a really bad chance of doing anything to a T6 guy.

Phrase it right and it'll get passed along. But HHs problem are from an absence of people from my observations. They need a good sculptor or two and a replacement for Alan Bligh.

That would make sense but aren't space marines themselves on like the equivalent of so much steroids that they literally grew an extra heart?

Marines are more muscular than the average man but a lot of their strength comes through specially reinforced muscle fibers and bone structure, boosted by the armour.

Goliaths just down muscle growth steroids like water and have a bunch of extra muscles implanted in them so become very swole indeed but kinds like short lives because their bodies can't take the strain.

The extra heart is one of like 5 organs that get implanted into them during the marine conversion process (that most don't survive)

Its way more grimdark and hardcore than simply pumping steroids :cheeky:

True but the fluff also says Marines tower over normal humans. Goliaths could too but none of this is really consistent.

You know, the houses all map pretty directly to styles of music

Orklock - Rock n Roll & Hard Rock
Goliath - Heavy Metal
Cawdor - Death Metal & Black Metal
Delaque - Thrash Metal & Nu Metal
Escher - Glam Rock & Hair Metal
Van Saar - EDM & Industrial

IDK I'm kinda being dumb but at the same time GW did kinda pull from certain cultural themes...

E:
Like, Orlock would listen to AC/DC, Goliath would listen to GWAR, Cawdor would listen to like Dimmu Borgir, Delaque would listen to like Anthrax, Escher would listen to Poison and Van Saar would listen to Aphex Twin.

So my groups first proper Neocromunda campaign is just around the corner. I was playing Van Saar in our warm up using the god-awful legacy rules doc, and the new minis are hella cool so I’m sticking with them.

I’m among the more experienced players so I want to give myself a challenge - namely, I’m not going to trim everything away and load up on bodies as is (rightly) considered the wise path. Van Saar are so expensive that getting more than 8 starting models is really tricky, and I want to try to prove that a small numbers list can be viable using precise tactics.

My list so far:

Leader with Las-Carbine. Starting skill Overseer

Champion with Las/Plas Combi-weapon, Photo-Goggles, and Mesh armour. Starting skill Trick Shot.

Champion with Suppression Laser & Infra-Sight, Mesh Armour. Starting skill Fast Shot.

Ganger with Rad-Gun and Laspistol.

Ganger with Lasgun and Smoke Grenades.

2x Ganger with Lasgun.

That spends all of my credits. 7 bodies is cutting it fine but the smoke should help me shut down return fire as well as the Infra sight and Photo-goggles helping to prevent any enemy gangs doing the same, so the Champions are the heavy lifters and don’t show themselves until the smoke is in place. Lasgun gangers take up defensive picket positions with the Rad-Gun lurking behind them for a threat against enemies who get too close for comfort. Use the leader as a back field fire base to light up anyone who breaks through the front line, as his 2+ BS Autogun will have a good chance of hurting or at least pinning anyone who comes through - and otherwise keep him Active for Overseer use to get more Plasma or Rad Gun shots off.

As soon as I suffer a casualty, I flee voluntarily. I can’t afford games where I have lots of fighters in recovery, so I have to preserve my ability to generate income in the early campaign.

As soon as I have some cash I will either load up on smoke, mesh armour and more photo-goggles/infra sights for my guys - or if I manage to score more than 70 credits or more in the first game the priority purchase is a new ganger.

Tactics are an interesting one. Our house rule for the tactics is that each player draws 20 cards at random from a pool of all Generics and their Faction deck, which is your hand. You can redo this at any time before a game begins. So I don’t yet know what my tactics will be :)

So I have a box of Van Saar and grabbed the Gang War books. I have a couple of questions;

1. The only limits on special weapons is on regular gangers, right? If I wanted I could give my Leader and Champions three special weapons? Or three heavies?

2. Is it wrong that I really, really want to give someone a multi-melta?

Yea, Reaper's Chronoscope line is probably the best place to look. They have a fair number of civilians, and there are also models that have something like a dinky pistol or are just dressed a little weird that would be fine in Necromunda - it's not like 'civilians' might not have a knife or stubber for their own sake, after all, and it's hard to dress too loopy for the underhive.

Be aware Reaper stuff tends to be a slightly larger scale than GW stuff so may look a bit odd right next to your gangers (though tbh that may no longer be an issue with the new plastics being bigger than the old metals). A lot of their figures have integrated bases, especially the Bones line, which you'll need to trim down if you want them on the Necromunda bases. Still, Bones stuff is pretty drat cheap if you don't mind the softness and the need to reset some of them with hot water.

TTerrible posted:

They published rules (OK, reprinted from previous editions) for most of the old BB Teams that have no current GW models, plus the legacy gangs for Necromunda. That's pretty good going. I think there are some AOS rules that GW published for OOP stuff too but they may no longer be on the site (TK and Brettonia mainly). GW are slowly becoming less bad at supporting people.
