Super Mario 64 at launch was 5.7 MB, or 35 Mbit, so it could fit on a 64 Mbit cart. They went as big as 512 Mbit, or 64 proper MB, for later games.

FF7 was on 3 CDs, or about 2100 MB/16,000 Mbit. 10 N64 carts would have been a serious underestimate, you’d have gotten all of disc 1 on ten carts.

Yeah, optimization would have brought that down a ton, and most of that space was FMV, but PS1 games only had to disc swap one time to have their total available storage size be a whole gigabyte per game. The N64 was struggling to make 1/10 the capacity of a single CD cost effective up until the day it died.

This is from the last page, but that's why it's insanely impressive Resident Evil 2 got a 64 release. If I remember right, they fit all of RE2, voiced dialog, FMVs, and everything else, on a single 64 cartridge.

If I remember correctly the cart was super expensive and you could buy a PlayStation with Re2 for less than the cost of it by that point

That's right. Here it is. But it's like you always have compared the sword, the making of the sword, with the making of the character. Cuz the stronger, the stronger it will get, right, the stronger the steel will get, with all that, and the same as with the character.

I can only offer anecdotal evidence, but I remember the gaming press, at the time of the N64 launch, bending over backwards to claim its superiority. Lots of mentions about the lack of loading times, but also stuff like:

"Well, technologically, there really isn't a noticeable jump from 16-bit to 32-bit. So we're only now seeing a true next-gen console."

Sure, loading times were annoying, and the N64 did have a smattering of good games. But it sure didn't win that generation.

This is every nintendo console since the n64. You buy the mario and zelda games, maybe another 1st party game, but that's it. I know so many people who just bought a WiiU for Smash Bros, Skyward Sword, Splatoon and Mario Maker.

The Wii was probably the best for third party stuff. It sold like gangbusters and as a result there's lots of cool weirdo games, that probably didn't deserve a full price at the time, and would be like 20 dollar indie games now, but for a while were super cheap at gamestop. Though I'd imagine they've all started to creep up in price.

For some reason it reminds me of something I played with as a kid. Iirc it was a black hearse with a grey roof that opened up along the middle. There was also a skull on the roof. Anyone else remember this or did my parents just buy me some really weird knockoff?

The voices sounded about as garbled as the voices in Half-Life, but they were all there. Unfortunately, they didn't make the door transitions skippable, so the zero loading time didin't really make a differance.

The late 80's/early 90's had several R-rated movies turned into cartoons. In addition to the ones you mentioned, there was Robocop and Swamp Thing. I remember the latter because the cartoon made me want to rent the movie (not having any idea of the content), and the guy at Blockbuster told my mom "uh, bad idea."

The face morphing that starts about halfway through the video (which is the end of the song) blew my loving mind in 1991. Watch to the end for a special appearance.

It may be that it was on another channel while the real halftime show was put on the network that was actually showing the game

I never watched either of those, but I do know Police Academy also had a cartoon. What I find more disturbing is that your Blockbuster had a clerk that cared that much, and was also a bad video store guy, it's their job to warp your mind.

They ported Max Payne to the Game Boy Advance. They made it 3rd person 3/4 isometric view like Crusader: No Remorse but all the voices and music were there. It turned out really well, actually.

Yeah, during Super Bowl XXVI in 1992, and it got pretty decent ratings compared to the actual halftime show (Which was some ice capades stuff and Washington was beating Buffalo 24-0). The next year the NFL had Michael Jackson for halftime and nobody seriously tried to compete with that (Even though the game was meh as Dallas was similarly beating up Buffalo).
