Give thanks that it's the kind of volcano that puts out runny lava that travels at a brisk walking pace so you can pack your family up and go, as opposed to the kind of volcano that blasts out 800-1000°C plumes of ash and gas that hammer across the landscape at half the speed of sound.

Having just paid AUD1300 for a graphics card, I'd say: Build a weir or bund out of crypto miners. I don't mean computing equipment.

So what happens to the property owners if their entire lot is now under multiple feet of lava rock? I'm assuming in some cases they will have to do new surveys to even see where property lines were. But what then? Just build on top of it? I'm assuming the foundation would be rather expensive but I don't know what fresh lava rock can support, I assume there's various types and densities.

That's a fairly decent size cove that's not there anymore.

I would say that it's lovely rock you can't build on but I guess that's kind of the whole of Hawaii, so

The purple to the north is cold, old flow, right? Or are the poor bastards that refused to evacuate now completely surrounded by lava?

If you look on Google Earth, there’s some land between Leilani Estates and Kapoho Bay where it looks like they scraped off big rectangular areas of the 1955 flow and planted crops. So I guess if you’re really determined you can dig back down to soil level and try to start over. But those areas are under the 2018 flow now so be prepared to have to do it yet again later on.

(Edit: Actually, the current flow ran north and east of the scraped-off areas.)

I snuck a pick of the demo guys working next door.

That ladder is straddling a narrow shaft and immediately next do a large air shaft, both of which go down about 75 feet. They aren't even using the safety ropes I let them setup on my roof. (Most of which are tied off on a metal railing, not an actual certified anchor...)

I'll be happy when they wrap demo and move on to different safety problems.

Wasn't there an old geyser in Yellowstone that recently became active again?

I'm wondering if that geyser, the Guatemala eruption and the Hawaii eruption are connected in some way or if it was just a series of coincidences.

It's definitely the end times. Pretty soon manhole covers will be cooking off, lakes will be boiling, moles shooting out of their burrows like pink, fleshy cannonballs, etc.

Hawaii is still America so it's just a matter of how many guns and bullets you need to defeat the lava.
