The first time I heard about it it was an electrician who got it done so he'd be able to feel the magnetic field induced by live wires, especially if he didn't expect them to be live, which struck me as really sensible.

Fun fact for the Biohack episode: Sloughy is a type of necrotic tissue. As the name suggests, sloughy tissue is separating itself from the body/wound site, and is often stringy.
