Hi grey, After being the bringer of good news, I hate to be the bringer of possible bad news... But ....... we need the good Tojo's, the KI44c model... the one with armor On the 2nd of June you had 54 of those, the KI44a model has no armor, that's not good for our pilots... With regard to carrier airgroup upgrades, they can be done at a medium level port at the ship itself, however fragments of airgroups CANNOT be upgraded. I noticed that you had some fragments on your carriers and on islands . Either disband them or fly them to the carrier or a lvl5 base to recombine them with the main fragment Further with regard to carrier airgroups: you can also resize them to 72 , they make a hell of a dent in Allied attacks or Allied Shipping once land based By the way : I am looking for a late war Japanese pick up game . I would be really grateful If you can pm me any of your saves to my hotmail adress barryverhoef@ .com Any Non Disclosure Agreement will be signed :-) and I will not post about your great game, it is for personal use only N.B If anyone has questions about the mechanics of this game without reading the manual: This thread has it all: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2260137

Those aircobras and spitfires are in for a nasty surprise when the Helens start being escorted by Tojos and A7Ms.

Even accounting for Japan actually managing to get them into real production in this LP, the A7M won't be around for months yet. Looking back at the plane pool picture though... Grey, do you not have any N1Ks available yet, or are they just down the list from the section you showed? Those would be a rather nice addition to your fighter pools in addition to the Ki-84s.

What an almost-perfect island to appear on this day. Anyway, on to your daily loss report: 6 June 1944 It's D-Day, and that means casualties. Eight hundred eighty-two warships were involved, along with over 4,000 landing vessels and 1,250 transports. Of the warships, only three destroyers were lost during the invasion: the Norwegian Svenner, torpedoed by German torpedo-boats (the seagoing variety, not MTBs), and the British Wrestler and American Corry, both mined. Wrestler did not sink, but was damaged beyond repair. There are some curious discrepancies in Corry's loss. I'll just quote Wiki: Wikipedia posted:The official loss of ship report for Corry states that at 06:33 she hit a mine, which was said to have exploded below her engineering spaces. Initial reports by the commanding officer, however, state that Corry was sunk by a salvo of heavy caliber projectiles which detonated amidships below the water level in the engineering spaces and caused the breaking in half and sinking of the vessel. German reports also state that the Saint Marcouf (Crisbecq) battery commanded by Walter Ohmsen, located 1 1⁄2 miles (2.4 km) inland, with its three 210-millimeter (8.25 in) guns scored a direct hit on an American warship at approximately H-Hour (0630), causing its sinking. The warship was initially believed to be a light cruiser (due to Corry's silhouette resembling that of a light cruiser at a distance). About two weeks after D-Day, a detailed report stating that heavy artillery fire had sunk Corry was about to be submitted as the official loss of ship report, but it was suddenly scrapped and rewritten stating that Corry had struck a mine. No officers or crew were consulted for input on the rewrite of the report. This final official loss report for Corry stated on its last page that shelling received simultaneously with the proposed mine resulted in "merely incidental damage". In the Pacific, the Silent Service kept in the action, Harder sinking the destroyer Minazuki and Raton sinking escort No. 15.

In this timeline, D-Day failed due to the transports being mistakenly loaded with support personnel instead of the actual combat troops.

My raiders finally get a break in their luck – taking two torps while blowing up patrol boats. These wounds quickly prove fatal to our light criuiser. We blow up another landing craft. Then another. Another one follows this as it becomes a bad day to be on an allied small craft. Take that! The killing continues. It is good. We see the Spitfires again today. The Kido Butai is out sparring with Liberators. They also sink a proper ship. God drat it, I wanted that fuel. Bit of a mixed day, blew up lots of ships, but lost a cruiser. The sub claim is a bit odd. We also get a report that the Essex was not sunk and is still in service.

...Oh no, not another 18kt training cruiser, hanging like an albatross around the neck of the task forces, sunk. Also, why the hell are they worth 24 points? Fubuki-class and later destroyers are more effective surface combatants then they are, let alone anything their actual size.

Moon phase and overcast determine visibility and that's a roll in night air search, air strike, recon and surface-surface spotting distance. Not tides though.

As far as I know the game doesn't track anything about a ship's crew other than 1) the captain and 2) an overall crew experience stat.

We obliterate another allied ship. I love those words. Twice in one day! Flak brings down more planes. We tangle with some lightnings. The Thunderbolts hit us at Rabaul. The bombing and bombardment has done it's work though, the enemy at Manus are disrupted. We're making progress in at least one of our attacks. There is the Bataan confirmed.

7 June 1944 Mines off Normandy claim another victim in USS Tide, a minesweeper, and USS Harder keeps up the kill streak by torpedoing the destroyer Hayanami near Borneo. 8 June 1944 USAAF aircraft take down the destroyer Harusame off western New Guinea while USS Hake draws blood near Mindanao, sinking the destroyer Kazegumo. Back at Normandy, German aircraft appear in enough force to knock out HMS Lawford, a frigate acting as an assault HQ ship, and mines continue their attrition: US destroyers Meredith and Glennon are disabled by mines and finally sunk the following day by bombs and artillery respectively and destroyer escort Rich strikes two mines while moving to assist Glennon, breaking in half.

So what I'm getting from this is that since none of the Katori-class's actual uses are modeled in-game (and some of them seem like they could have been modeled, given certain modifiers that have been mentioned), the class is an active liability to the Japanese player. Useless in combat, useless for any kind of transport capability, and worth a bunch of points if they get sunk... I guess the best option is to just squirrel them away in Hokkaido or one of those other northern ports to keep them hidden and out of the way?

Our heavy ships lay into Manus again – every hit is more disruption. The bombers keep up the pressure as well. We actually come out on top here for once! We've nearly broken through the forts here. There is another dogfight over Burma. Still bombarding here, and still trying to get my bombers to do something. I make attempt number 100 to change the settings on my bombers in China to try and make them hit something. The next step is to move them closer. Maybe taking them out of a city will remove them from whatever distractions they are finding.

9 June 1944 American submarines score two more victories over Japanese destroyers, Swordfish sinking Matsukaze and Harder (better, faster, stronger) sinking Tanikaze. American aircraft damage the German torpedo boat TA-27 (ex-Italian Auriga) at Elba; it capsizes during the night. Two German destroyers, ZH-1 (ex-Dutch Gerard Callenburgh) and Z-32, are caught off the Ile de Batz in Brittany and destroyed by British and Canadian destroyers. At Normandy, today sees the commencement of Mulberry harbor construction. Numerous old ships are scuttled as part of the breakwater, including the British battleship Centurion, cruiser Durban, and AA auxiliary Alynbank, the French battleship Courbet, and the Dutch cruiser Sumatra.
