I meet a bunch of rescue dogs when I walk my sister's dog. Some of them are real shy but you can see they want to make friends, they're just all nervous and don't quite know how to do it. I love seeing how they improve a little every time I see them! Last week we met one who basically ran away screaming when my sister's dog approached, but calmed down when her owner gave her some reassurance. They met again this week and played a little together, it was adorable.

Thank you :) He's much much better, though still inclined to run off if you try to pat him unexpectedly. Learning to love walks was a major part of his rehabbing - he adores meeting other dogs so going for his walk is the highlight of his day. He now has doggy friends that he meets nearly every day for a sniff and a wag :3:

perfect baby :unsmith:

what's his story, if you don't mind me asking?

He was dumped on a shih tzu breeder's doorstep by someone who just said 'Take him, we don't want him any more' :smith:
We heard about him via an ad on the back page of the newspaper - the fact that he was a pale brown/white shih tzu (actually lhasa apso) was very important as we have an 18 year old parrot who wouldn't accept any dog that didn't look exactly like our recently deceased dog Daisy; she growls loudly at every other dog but fluffed up, wagged her tail and went 'PEEEP' at Henry, which was basically how she said hello to our old dog. She's inclined to bully dogs so we never leave them out unsupervised or she'd spend her whole time trying to bite him on the rear end (she thinks its really funny).

For the first few days Henry just hid under things all the time or if he was outside he hid in the garden hedges. He was just so frightened all the time, it was really heartbreaking. It took the best part of a year but he slowly started relaxing and trusting us - he still won't let you just reach down and pat him randomly, but it's far more of an old habit than real fright these days. Now he plays lots of games, gets lots of cuddles and lots and lots of walks and is a very happy, if still somewhat weird little dog whose family love him very much :3:

She had a nice curry for her tea that day.

Just a random good day when she got to eat a pencil.

As an aside, I've found that African Greys don't tend to photograph well for cuteness; they are lovely, clever and affectionate birds but they tend to look a bit startled and offended in photos (kind of like the phantom of the opera)

All hail the queen!

Dienes is mean and won't let me get one of these :negative:.

I miss my birds. I used to have a bunch at my dad's, but I was the only one who took care of them (more than grudgingly throwing food in their bowl) so after I left for school 1400 miles away they were severely neglected. I couldn't get a place where I was allowed to have them fast enough, so they got adopted out through a rescue....so embarrassed that animals had to be rescued from my horrible family.

But they're happy and healthy now with new owners.

This was my girl, Soleil, a gorgeous sun conure. She was so sweet and loved to dance, except when she laid an egg periodically....then she was in full on bitch mode defending it.

She was adopted from a rescue along with this guy. He was fully plucked except for his head, neck, and tail when we got him, so his name was Porcupine (Porky for short) because he always had some pin feathers somewhere until he yanked them out. We're not entirely sure what he was, but my guess was a mitred conure.

He bonded with my brother closer than I've ever seen with a bird. If we didn't clip his wings and he was let out, he would fly around the house systematically searching until he found my brother, landed on his shoulder, and then let out a cackling laugh. He couldn't really talk, but he had a really wide range of sounds he could mimic.

We had the K'Nex roller coaster and we modified the car to have a perch on it. We made a little helmet out of a walnut shell that he would wear and ride that thing around and around for hours :3:. He was such a doofus. Sadly that was before the days of digital cameras so I don't have any photos, but here's one of him hanging upside down, his standard pose most of the time.

Louie the blue & gold macaw was the saddest of the bunch. We got him first (well....second.....we had a cockatiel for many years first, but he was our first big bird), and he was so happy and healthy. He bonded with me, probably because I was the one who actually spent time with him and trained him and took him outside in the summer.

Then my stepmom, a raging entitled bitch from a rich family, decided she didn't like Louie because he liked me and not her. So she demanded they adopt a new macaw and raise it from a baby so it would bond with her. This plan was successful....they adopted Skittles, a scarlet macaw, and they deliberately trained it to be violently horrible to everyone but her and my dad.

Gorgeous bird, but sadly satan incarnate (just like my stepmom).

After they got her, they were just over Louie, 100% of their attention and caring went to Skittles and the other 3 were completely ignored. Here was Louie about 2 years after they got that thing, starting to pluck and be aggressive toward people.

They were amazed when I came back to visit for the holidays every year and the second I walked in the door Louie perked up and started talking again. I would go right to his cage and reach in without hesitation, and they'd all be like NO DON'T DO IT HE'LL MAUL YOU. But he was absolutely fine with me and I'd try to give him as much love as possible in the short time I was there.

Sorry for the kind of sad story, my family sucks, but I helped arrange to get them out of there in the end. I don't have any photos I can find, but last I heard from the new family, Porky and Soleil are doing great with their new family, and Louie has regrown all of his feathers and is doing amazing now that he's away from Skittles/Satan.

I want to say "thank you" for the Beagles, but obviously the walnut shell roller coaster birb is the issue which needs to be addressed.
