I remember when they didn't have mandated pit stops. It always sucked if a 24 hour race was decided because a sleep-deprived mechanic didn't fix the tire correctly because everyone tried to go as fast as possible, or drivers having to come back to the pits because their seat or seatbelt or whatever wasn't fixed correctly etc. Or cars going up in flames because the sleep-deprived driver dragged the sleep-deprived refueling-guy with him while petrol was spilling all over the place.
