Sort of - mostly what it does is lower everyone's HP while making armour better, and then do a general balance pass on a lot of the game (including survival mechanics). I would still recommend it even for a first time, since I personally find that it improves the game experience a lot for me (way fewer bullet sponge enemies with a million HP), especially if you use survival mode (which I find makes the game more fun, but YMMV).

It's basically the director's cut version of the game, but if you just want to play vanilla NV instead, it's not like there are huge glaring issues with that either.

You'll definitely want the two fan patches just because NV is still somewhat buggy, even though most of the really bad bugs were eventually fixed by Obsidian.

Thanks

Yeah, I really thought XCom wouldn't come to GOG at all, or at a near-impulse price like this. Pure psychology: put up Xenonauts for free (probably in part b/c the poor devs realize they aren't getting any more money on the game), drop XCom 1 in a "complete" package at a median GOG price, but at an "80%" discount. It feels like an unmissable deal, even if the $50 price tag is kinda silly for a game this old and (from what I can tell) this surpassed by the sequel.

Spot on, but as a chap who likes turn-based tactics game in general, it's a very good buy even putting aside the illusion of a discount. They could have put the standard price at $19.99 and I would have snapped it up in a trice. Mind you, having all fo the DLC means a lot to my OCD-crippled brain. That's one of the two reasons I bought Mafia 2, which includes all of the DLC, and not Mafia 3, which doesn't.

it is listed on their site as singleplayer.

Prediction: XCom Complete will debut as packaged on Steam for their summer sale, with multiplayer enabled, causing impotent rage among the militant faction of the GOG forums.

I dunno if it bolsters the claim earlier in the thread that Combat Mission may be removed from the service soon, but it's a weeklong deal at $2.50. The RPS series about it got me interested so I figured this was as good a time as any to pick it up.

I'll post a contrary opinion and tell you that I personally enjoyed Fallout 3 way more than New Vegas. I just can't make myself care about casinos, and most of the quests in New Vegas just felt so trite. Maybe I was just at a bad point in my gaming life when I tried it, but it felt so formulaic. NV had some nice touches (Vulpes Inculta is awesome), and mechanically it's got a better system I think, but Fallout 3 left me with better memories and I felt far more touched by its story. (Note, I only played the base game for FO3 and none of the expansions.)

I hear it can be a pain to get FO3 working right on modern systems, though.

I apparently won a give-away for a mystery game during the summer sale and it's not one I'm interested in so I'm going to throw it here instead for someone to grab. My loss is your gain!

I’m not one to usually question people’s opinion about video games but what was it about New Vegas led you to believe that casinos were the big thing you were supposed to care about?

95% percent of the game has nothing to do with casinos. There are 3 quest lines that deal with casinos but almost all of it is entirely optional.

It's kinda corny, but the developer of Cultist Simulator was getting bugged to implement cloud saves on Steam, and noted it's on the agenda but usually isn't easy to just add features.

So the guy from GOG messaged him about it preemptively.

I remember review magazines poo poo on the game alot, but I did play the demo a lot and saved up money to buy it when i was younger and I had alot of fun playing the Skirmish.

It was pretty beautiful for it's time, those reviewers got it wrong, it sure as poo poo wasn't a starcraft clone. Starcraft was much more accessible and easier to play than Sub T.
