His opponent is wearing the Spanish jersey of a player whose name begins with the letter R. His short haircut makes him look a tiny bit like Spain's most famous player, Cristiano Ronaldo:

Whether Messi or Ronaldo is better a longstanding argument among soccer fans. Their cosplayer-lookalikes playing a chess match is therefore funny amusing.

The World Cup is underway. It is expected that Spain or Argentina will advance deep enough into the cup to possibly play Brazil, a pick for the final every cup. The spectator in the yellow jersey is wearing Brazil's national jersey. That too is funny amusing. It doesn't really work in terms of the way the tournament is structured, as I don't think Argentina and Spain can meet before the final (but I'm a super-casual soccer viewer so wtf do I know).

There. I don't think anyone's better off with this explanation, least of all me.

Yeah, but were the Stonehenge guys even white? That was like 5000 years ago, they certainly weren't anglo-saxon.

So what exactly is the criticism again?

That Ancient Alien theories don't spend as much time on making up bullshit explanations for the Anglo-Saxons and other north Europeans as they do for every other culture and society throughout history?

Right, taking away the accomplishments of non-white cultures by saying "must have been aliens, it's the only possible explanation" is analogous to assuming every person of color gets into college because of "affirmative action."

I know, but no one has pointed me to anything that would make me think it was being disproportionately applied to people of colour in this case. The definition of "White" being used in this conversation doesn't even include Irish so I'm not really sure how any show could be expected to give equal time or treatment to the tiny remaining group that make the cut.

I can't believe I'm publicly defending ancient alien conspiracies but you can definitely figure some Norse and Celtic poo poo into there, Odin/loki fits into all the archetypes. the Vikings just didn't build cool poo poo, so there are no buildings to explain. Stonehenge is also big time conspiracy fodder. No war but the class war
