I think people imagine the whole Nazi rise to power and how it corrupted and mobilised many millions of ordinary, previously moderate Germans into participation in or dimissal of abhorrent human rights abuses as some kind of unique event in history, never to be repeated. We're seeing today how it works, and naively think we're too enlightened for it to be the exact same thing.
