Tinder in Shenzhen - If she is white: Russian. So many Russians. They all teach yoga or dancing. Still give off a heavy prostitute vibe. North American girls that teach English and half the photos are of them in bars or next to small kids. Either really, really fat or anorexically skinny. 22+-year-olds that look 45+. Super positive "I JUST ARRIVED TO CHINA, OMG, SO AMAZING" optimistic first-timers. #wanderlust #Crossfit Is a tourist or backpacker that mistakenly thought China would be more "exotic" than Thailand or Bali. If she is not white, and not Chinese: Filipina nannies in Hong Kong. Black girls from the US south that teach English, also have photos of them in bars. Random Indians, usually from the UK. Africans in wigs and "make up shotgun" style make up. If she is Chinese: 99% are in Hong Kong, since I am so close to the border. They get angry at me for being on China side, like I am not allowed to use Tinder. Went to university in the UK. Lived in the UK or Australia. Loves scuba and snowboarding. I've never seen more scuba fans in my life. #wanderlust - "Travel is life" and then a list of countries or flag emojis where they visited. #sapiosexual - "I want intellectual conversations and a man that can think" followed by a profile full of photos of her holding a cat. #Crossfit for ones that don't look like they've ever tried exercise. Photos of them in Japan and/or wearing a kimono. Photos of them doing super duper expensive things or in obviously super expensive hotels and locations. "I don't message first or respond to 'hello,' you should make some effort!" "I want serious relationships only, no chatting!" followed by a list of rare traits they demand in a guy. If she is the rare Chinese in Shenzhen: Speaks English but is confused by Tinder, and doesn't trust anything because of scammers. Probably studied or worked abroad and now is sad to be back in China and wants to make foreign "friends." Profile just says "I am in Shenzhen" and nothing else. Cats. So many cats. Photos of something with a stylish Chinese sentence in the middle. So far I have matched with angry HK girls that want white boyfriends but don't trust any white people. Russians that are really hippy-dippy and passing by. Super-obvious white guy chasers that live and die in foreigner bars. An Indian girl that wouldn't answer a single question about herself. An American that added my Wechat but only replies once per day for 5 minutes at a time, and disappears the rest of the time. A few Shenzhen women that are looking for husbands. Tantan is still full of spam bots, but the new updates are so full of bugs for me that half the time it locates me 1000km from where I am. Apparently I am popular in Xinjiang. They reduced the number of daily swipes from 500 down to 120, and offer paid upgrades similar to Tinder, but these are only available to Chinese accounts and I guess paid through Wechat. With Tantan being about 80% bots, 120 swipes means getting a match is rare. I'm trying, guys. Give me some time so I can make more more follies and blunders in my personal life.

First of all, I would like to say I am glad that opening the forums in China means I get a Chinese version of the captcha before I load the page. Last time I was here, it was a Google-only captcha, and I couldn't get on here without a VPN on. Now I can do it locally, and Imgur also doesn't require a VPN so I get a mostly-fine forums experience without Express VPN constantly dropping my connection. Express is alright, but about every hour it drops and I have to reconnect. On my phone, the app is somehow much slower on WiFi than on data while also burning my battery life at an alarming rate. Being like 1km from the HK border now, I randomly get notifications from blocked apps, but when I open them I can't get enough signal to get them to load. HerStuddMuffin posted:I thought you swore off China, and especially Shenzhen forever Bajaj. What made you change your mind? About two months ago or so, I stopped checking on social media and I used a browser extension to block a lot of news sites and widgets. I stopped reading reddit except for some DIY subs that I learn from. I stopped opening these forums every day. I have very little idea what is going on in the world, and it's perfect. It worked great to lift me out of the bombardment of retarded news and the media machine. I think it's been the best thing I've done online since pirating. I've freed up so much time and, outside of youtube, I rarely know what to do online anymore. Reddit, social media, and the forums were brainless automatic source of clicks, and I broke that bad habit I developed over the years of online use. I've been reading ebooks every night, sleeping earlier, and so on, because the typical social aspect of opinion mongering and replying and blabbing is all gone. I just see China and face culture as what it is, and my motto is already just "Well, this is China, what do you expect?" instead of the previous "OH. MY. GOD. HOW DARE THEY... REEEEEEEEEEEEEE" It's cool. I recommend everyone to try it for a couple weeks. Kharnifex posted:Please marry CG It would be like this: https://i.imgur.com/I2xzW0V.gifv Anyway, I'll update when I meet some new people, but only if they give me the usual China experience.

I've been reading ebooks every night, sleeping earlier, and so on, because the typical social aspect of opinion mongering and replying and blabbing is all gone. having the time away from hyperbolic ether-shouting on twitter also gave me time to actually try to answer the question of how the world got where it is and how hosed are we, all that jazz. again, given time to ponder, it's surprising how optimistic you can end up being. the answer i basically came away with is that we're pretty hosed, but we've been hosed way worse before and we've been hosed way worse in recent memory. by current standards pretty much the entire 19th century was one constant meltdown, both in the US and globally, and even the happy times of the 20th century had the constant specter of both political and economic doom just off screen. and through all that, the world came away better fed, better clothed, living longer, and having more healthy years, pretty much the entire world over. the only 20 year period in the last 200 that failed to live up to that promise was loving 1930-1950, wherein the world actually factually lost everything and then set itself on fire. donny t sucks, daddy xi sucks, face culture is toxic and sucks and the CCP would do the entire world a great favor if all its senior leadership would come together and re-enact jonestown. no argument. the perspective we lose is important, though. the average chinese citizen is still way better off than they were under mao, and the horrifying thing about the mass starvation that mao incited so he could have enough grain to buy nukes is exactly how common that mass starvation was in the 100 years before him (which is potentially part of the reason he could get away with it). the world can always be better and always needs to get better - that's critical, and the fact that it is critical presupposes that tons of poo poo is very bad in our world right now - but pretending like we as a race are or have been swirling the drain isn't just factually wrong, it's kinda morally wrong too because it disincentivizes people from doing anything to help. but that doesn't matter in the current equilibrium. if you're plugged in, the most useful thing you can be is horrified and outraged full time because that's what brings in those sweet clicks and the sweet ad revenue. it's no wonder people end up so angry and scared when it's in internet commerce's collective best interest for them to be angry and scared. it's also no wonder that bleeds over into their daily lives and makes them more likely to be curmudgeons about good fortune, or, in your case, generalize a bad experience into a bad universal truth. the only sane thing to do is to leave it behind. burn down facebook, burn down twitter, burn down the walled gardens and silence the cacophony from whatever rear end in a top hat has the most followers. get back to things that can provide you with real signal. china ruined my business, but indirectly, china also gave me back my life in this bass ackwards way. e: if you want a demonstration of this in action go look at the 'lol rip white people' thread in GBS right now. whether it's the imminent evolutionary white genocide or the idea that all of china's coastlands are imminently going to be underwater, the psychopathic hyperbole is in full swing in that thread and people are so used to being horrified and outraged that there's massive amounts of schadenfreude oozing out of every post at the idea of death and destruction for entire cultures. and if the cross-thread skirmishing that's clearly seeping in is any indication, all of the above is legit seriousposting. nevermind that evolution doesn't work like that, global warming doesn't work like that, culture and race don't work like that, and governments and culture don't interact like that. what's important is that fear and outrage is culminating in death and that's apparently super awesome.
