And then the dude that adapted it to TV was troublingly enough quite Possibly A Nazi. And this showed through the random changes he made to the story once it passed the source material. And then the people in charge of the franchise decided to redo the Anime not too long after for a number of reasons, which may or may not involve Money, to please the creator's ego to make a more faithful adaptation, and to distance themselves from the dude who was a little too comfortable with Nazis.

Don't forget the utterly  "idea" that creator had that alchemy power came from deaths in our world during World War One (which was occurring at the same time).I am not loving making that up. FMA:Brotherhood is well worth a watch though, and has a much better story overall.
