Lowest was 33 which had White. Highest was 58 when I did Shinryu grinding for a no750-type team beforehand so I didn't have to run through the void twice.

Beat Exdeath in world 2. That was not very fun as every two turns someone died to vacuum wave. Reviving not a issue, as the moment they get a turn they can heal up with the drain blade, but the fact he can use zombie breath and kill half the party and make them zombies was the real lovely part. I only had a single holy water and I don't recall any shops in world 2 selling it.

It depends on party. My average levels have tended to be in the 26-32 range for NED (not counting extra levels if needed for superbosses). If you have Blue or White Mage you don't need much hp to be in the 'can survive Almagest range', and it can similarly be dealt with by Bard, Chemist, Dragoon, and Mystic Knight. Higher levels will be needed if you don't have any such measures (or if you aren't comfortable relying on shell from a Wonder Rod or a Crystelle catch) and don't have any particularly tanky class.

Hrm, then ive got to be doing something wrong because it feels like everything since the end of world two has some rude instant counter.

I gave up on leviathan (I skipped buying coral rings, I know) when it did tidal wave three times in a row and in that time period a single one of my hasted characters got to act.

Edit: Oh my god does all turning battle speed up do is make the game harder?

Yep, if you turn up the battle speed to 1, all it means is that the enemies get to act faster, if you turn it down to 6 they get far fewer actions. I usually keep it set at 5, enough that you aren't waiting around forever for an enemy to take an action if you need to do something to sync up attack (magissa for example), but low enough that you're not getting 1 set of actions per 2-3 enemy actions. Changing the battle speed does nothing for your own ATB bars.

The patch also adds two new changes I was working on (not coincidentally timing with my Fiesta Beastmaster):
  • The Blitz Whip (found in Jachol cave, home of Skull Eaters) now has a 20% chance of activating !Release instead of casting Thunder, which normally makes it useless. Unlike regular !Release, monsters released this way are not removed from the character, which means you can live the dream of !Releasing Sand Bears nonstop. I've been having fun using this whip to plow through fights! Turns out there's a catch in World 2 that does +6000 damage (Ironbacks in the Catlebopas/Shoat cave) and a catch in World 3 that does +7000 damage (Cheries in the Phoenix Tower). The Lamias in the Phoenix Tower also cast White Wind so there's a lot of possibilities here...
  • The Chain Whip (available in most stores in World 2) is now a whip that always !Rapidfires. The whip itself has a weak enough base attack that doesn't make this worthwhile on its own, but you could combine it with Dual Wield or something to increase its power...

I downloaded this to try it, and none of the jobs are unlocked at the start. The mod seems to be working cause I have the hero class.
Edit: wait, does the jobs mod not unlock the jobs like the fiesta patch? I might just be confused.

Yeah, the balance mod does not have the job unlock feature.

In the meantime, I just finished my run :toot: Ran balance mod through the paces to discover some amusing glitches, like the !Focus Rapidfire effect transferring to other abilities (Sword Dance and Mug, notably.) The new Blitz Whip was pretty fun, although I ended up making my Beastmaster into a second Dancer with Sand Bears/Iron Backs as my main release since Monk provided most of the support. I ended up building Krile into a Rune Axe Sword Dancing murder machine which was pretty satisfying (and the Sword Dance Rapidfire bug made her absolutely terrifying :stare:) She did save my bacon with a clutch NED kill though! (see screenshot below.) Going to be doing a 750 Extra Spicy run next, since this run felt very no750.

The balance patch does not unlock all jobs. If you aren't running Forbidden, I've had luck finding a GameShark code to unlock all the jobs. Due to the balance patch, the code didn't unlock Cannoneer and Gladiator and instead unlocked some work in progress/abandoned jobs.

Decent synergy team, the two weak links were made bearable by the better classes; Geo liked being a Throwbot and Dancer appreciates both Dual-Wield and !Drink for nearly-free HP Doubling and early game Haste.

Starting on a Pure Chaos run, got Blue Mage and Freelancer so far. We'll see what Fire is tomorrow, I got sleep (and then work) to get to soon.

Having a blue mage, it's pretty funny going into a boss fight and going "I wonder if lvl 5 Death/Deathclaw works" and then having it work way more then you realize.

I'm a little confused by dark spark though. Shouldn't it be lowering the enemies stats (minus hp)? I cast it on enemies and I feel like they're still dealing/taking the same amount of damage.

Monsters have a pre-set attack multiplier that they use for most attacks. Monster magic multiplier is affected by their level, and thus Dark Spark, though it's the usual (level*mag)/256 + 4 deal.

Did a second run, chaos this time, and got Geo/Knight/Monk/Samurai.

At first, I was dreading the worst after getting Geomancer. I had never gotten it in the fiesta before and anytime I used it while playing casually I had plenty of other options to lean on. It ended up being pretty handy overall, I used the fiesta patch so I had access to it from the word go, and !Gaia ended up really helping out with some of the bosses I was dreading. It also helped out with making grinding a breeze, since between the first three classes I had to rely on items for healing I decided to make sure I was leveled... and had 4 Flame Rings.... and had a small stash of Elixirs. I may have overdone it a bit with the grinding.

So what can a Cannoneer do to Omega? My understanding is that the Combines are auto-hit with a flat 75% status proc which isn't affected by any evades. Is that right? You can glitch and skip Neo-Exdeath. It's really not a big deal. That fight can be a pain for some parties, even though four Berserkers can (eventually) do it.

Of course, if you have any of the classes that can reliably glitch Tree Ex-Death this way (which I think are Chemist, Cannoneer, and Oracle? Am I forgetting any other obvious tricks?) you almost certainly don't need to do it.

Combines that cause a status effect he is immune to don't get countered. So slow him and use mini or some other shot that goes uncountered to pile up damage. If you have reflect up by some means, you can switch to thunder or needle cannon when he's reflecting search on himself.

Shin can also be slowed to just hilariously trivialize him further, and will likely be a no damage fight if you have multiple !combine users to pile all that on immediately.
