Even if you look at something like NY-12, Patel pulled out 40% of the vote in a rich district against a forever-incumbent despite no serious political experience and a terribly awkward campaign. Throughout the state, people are at least voting for "not that rear end in a top hat again" if not left-wing ideals

Jeff Klein's challenger isn't nearly as good, but she's decent and he has the stigma of starting the caucus to begin with. Martin Dilan isn't IDC, but he's a landlord stooge and he also has a good challenger
