saying more immigrant workers don't economically hurt american workers is like saying chinese workers don't hurt american workers

of course capitalists use increased labor supply to exploit their labor force further

the root of the problem here is absurd capitalist exploitation that causes workers to be worse off when there is more productivity

http://budgetmodel.wharton.upenn.edu/issues/2016/1/27/the-effects-of-immigration-on-the-united-states-economy
https://www.economist.com/united-states/2016/08/25/wage-war

Those at Wharton School of Business, from which Trump graduated, concluded that wages do not decline for native workers with increased immigration, only foreign-born workers who were already here, citing the results of two studies included in a table and which seem common enough as citations to have also been mentioned in The Economist's article. They also note the trend in the capital-labor ratio, the amount of money spent per worker, for all workers, saw no change after 1980 (Figure 2), meaning the trend of increasing wages for the average worker wasn't affected. The reason that chart is a log chart is because capital increases exponentially with investment and labor increases exponentially with population growth, I'm guessing.

The problem with "immigrant workers economically hurt American workers" is that the increased demand and the labor supply cancel each other out, apparently, leading to the exact same situation but with a larger population.

but yes, I agree, let's tax the rich capitalists out of all their money and take it for ourselves

American wages don't have to decline for immigrants (legal or otherwise) to have an adverse affect on american laborers' aggregate economic interest in a capitalist context. Wages stagnating while workers' productivity keeps increasing is an adverse effect.

Before the 70s, american wages had increased along w/ their productivity because there was a chronic shortage of labor even with mass immigration. After the 70s without the labor shortage and increased automation, american wages stagnated.

There'd be the same amount of money in the system, it'd just be transferred from building McMansions to building housing for the working class

https://medium.com/basic-income/wouldnt-unconditional-basic-income-just-cause-massive-inflation-fe71d69f15e7

This is unrelated, but I went digging through my saved webpages on UBI and I found that @MattBruenig, founder of the People's Policy Project thinktank who I'd seen quoted here, pretty much deleted all this tweets on the subject of "UBI vs. jobs guarantee" during mid-May. At the time, he was making a "why not give people money directly instead of doing workfare" argument, and "engineers won't work for minimum wage like they did in the mass unemployment of the Great Depression" but I don't think the jobs necessarily have to involve any building. There's always volunteer work that can be done that the private industry isn't addressing and you can find plenty of it on sites for volunteering. The only difference is that it'd be paid.

Similar to corbyn's upset victory the establishment was so confident in their polling they didn't see any need to a make a big effort for the primary.

After all Crowley had easy election wins for 10 years straight.

the capitalists I specified will just charge more for the same services and housing. they don't actually have to provide new housing. there's not actual competition in these markets to keep sellers honest.

also quantitative easing did cause significant inflation in the form of asset price inflation, because the quantitative easing was money in the hands of rich people and not poor people shopping at wal-mart and buying cable from comcast

UBI and minimum wage increases will help poor people a lot by raising the floor, but it won't significantly increase standard of living of most people

No we prosecute the employers of current illegal immigrants and then seize their businesses and give them to the now documented immigrants.
