The PC version of Halo came out about a year after Halo dropped for the Xbox, which is probably why it was forgotten to exist.

Weird that I don't remember it being poorly optimised. Potentially I had a very recent rig upgrade at the time or it's just rose tinted specs I guess. It was pretty big on PC though, I don't think it slipped under the radar. It had an active and long-lasting competitive scene.

I remember them talking up the idea of getting missions that required a variety of skills, player not character, so you’d want to put together a team of players based on skill leaderboards.

No jokes when I was like five or six for Christmas my grandfather bought me a "Gameboy" which is what he called one of those $2 Tetris games, which he got instead of an actual Gameboy because the shop didn't have any in stock when he went. I remember being super disappointed but my parents raised me well enough not to show it. I played the poo poo out of that Tetris game anyway to be fair.

After I finally figured out a way to tap out an entire game and get it to work (River Raid I think) I realized there was no way to save it. I didn't have the cassette drive. I never got that drive and never bothered to tap out another game either. Got a Colecovision and reveled in arcade quality Donkey Kong goodness.
