I'm not saying to average over states GDP - I'm saying you can't say they're targeting blue states by looking at absolute tariff dollars, which is what you seemed to be implying with your links. The map in the article you linked:

which you accompanied with a map showing that Illinois voted for Clinton. But that $1.2 billion of Illinois exports now subject to tariffs? That's out of a GDP of $610 billion. Compare that to say, Iowa's $337 million now subject to tariffs, out of a $129 billion economy. 50% more of Iowa's GDP is subject to new tariffs than Illinois'. It's a rough measure because we don't know the size of those tariffs, and targeting critical industries will have more knock-on affects than secondary industries in robust economies.

You're right, though, that it's the people that are impacted that matter the most.

That's exactly what I'm rejecting though. A person isn't 50% more laid off in Iowa than Illinois. You can say "a smaller percentage of people are laid off" but in absolute numbers those big hits are where the most people are getting hosed over. The reddest of red states may have the most trump-voters percentage wise, but they're also smaller states. Texas is taking a hefty hit and they're approaching purple. "Thanks for casting your vote for the Democrats but gently caress you for living in a state where it's wasted. Now die of treatable disease because our idiot president nuked your job in a pointless dickwaving contest."

The second half is "poo poo rolls downhill", and the people at the very bottom of that hill aren't your defiant racist white suburban boomer trump voters. Talk about the political impact of the Tarrifs, or how well targetted they are, but don't gloat that migrant workers got the shaft when it was decided it was cheaper to let the harvest rot in the field this season.

Sexual Disgust Trumps Pathogen Disgust in Predicting Voter Behavior During the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election
Joseph Billingsley, Debra Lieberman, Joshua M. Tybur, , ...
Abstract
Why is disgust sensitivity associated with socially conservative political views? Is it because socially conservative ideologies mitigate the risks of infectious disease, whether by promoting out-group avoidance or by reinforcing norms that sustain antipathogenic practices? Or might it be because socially conservative ideologies promote moral standards that advance a long-term, as opposed to a short-term, sexual strategy? Recent attempts to test these two explanations have yielded differing results and conflicting interpretations. Here, we contribute to the literature by examining the relationship between disgust sensitivity and political orientation, political party affiliation, and an often overlooked outcome—actual voter behavior. We focus on voter behavior and affiliation for the 2016 U.S. presidential election to determine whether pathogen or sexual disgust better predicts socially conservative ideology. Although many prominent aspects of Donald Trump’s campaign—particularly his anti-foreign message—align with the pathogen-avoidance model of conservatism, we found that pathogen-related disgust sensitivity exerted no influence on political ideology, political party affiliation, or voter behavior, after controlling for sexual disgust sensitivity. In contrast, sexual disgust sensitivity was associated with increased odds of voting for Donald Trump versus each other major presidential candidate, as well as with increased odds of affiliating with the Republican versus the Democratic or Libertarian parties. In fact, for every unit increase in sexual disgust sensitivity, the odds of a participant voting for Trump versus Clinton increased by approximately 30%. It seems, then, that sexual disgust trumps pathogen disgust in predicting socially conservative voting behavior.

(This) Cohen's usually better than this. I find this sort of thing pretty gross.

Pointing out the reality that Trump has a type is gross? I mean, yeah, I guess.

This article lays out the case pretty convincingly that Broidy is just playing patsy in order to help Trump cover up another affair. Trump has an obsession with blonde playboy models (or women who fit the type), Broidy has a history of bribery, including paying for the girlfriend of one of the people he was bribing. Broidy's company made upwards of $600 million in Trump administration contracts. Broidy set up a 1.6 million dollar hush money agreement, and then immediately admitted to the affair pretty much the moment the news became public. He's hired a crazy high priced criminal lawyer to represent him now that he's trying to withdraw from the agreement, a situation that is almost certain to cost him more money than just paying it would cost. Hell, even just the cost of it is absurd, no one gives a poo poo about Elliott Broidy, certainly not 1.6 million dollars worth of shits.

And above all of that, the fact that Cohen is involved is an enormous blaring alarm. Cohen works for Trump. Trump is his only meaningful client, and even that is more of a lovely 'criminal' lawyer than an actual attorney. There is basically zero reason for the deputy finance chair of the RNC, of all people, to reach out to the president's criminal lawyer in order to get him to set up a hush money agreement. An agreement using the same names, the same colluding lawyer to help trick the counterparty and the same LLC to pay it out.

Trump hosed yet another playboy model without protection and managed to get her pregnant. Then Trump paid for it to go away, the same way he always does.

Stephen Harper is a former Canadian Prime Minister and has been frequently called upon to help strategize the "conservative" movement in the western world since he left office (because he's an uncaring political robot).

He's probably helping to point out weaknesses in the Canadian front since the Drumpf-imposed trade war has fully kicked off with Canada's tariffs yesterday.

I mean, the American people are having a crisis but the government kind of isn't, which is what "Constitutional crisis" actually means. Aside from a few judges saying "no, you obviously can't do that, you loving idiot" (and then being eventually overruled by a captured Supreme Court), the government is not really fighting itself at this time.

The Constitutional crisis is when and if the Democrats capture the House, and maybe the Senate, both by slim majorities, and Trump decides the elections were illegitimate, and the Supreme Court with his two Justices on it agree.

We needed a new Constitution anyway.
