Taking the votes requires compromises towards neo-con ideas. The SNP have lomg shown they're prepared to make those compromises. With independence being such a devisive topic the left of the party and those in the SSP etc will just swallow austerity and like it if it means getting independance. Content in the delusion that the ends justify the means and once we're free of the yoke of Westminster rule they will get what they want.

I mean the SSP came out and said they're distancing themselves from the SNP's campaign and the GCR and will run their own independence campaign.

I'm just going to end up frustrated that nothing happens beyond Richie Venton having some book selling events.

Welcome to socialism in Scotland I guess, we just rotate who's selling the books.

The problem is running a separate indy campaign is functionality irrelevant as you're all pulling in the same direction. The only difference is they've accepted you'll have no part in an independent government, just along for the ride.

In fairness, it's more just welcome to Trots anywhere in the world. Trots exist to keep the printing industry alive and for no other reason.

Glasgow gets enough fires in listed buildings on sites perfect for new flats that it could probably sustain a few arsonists professionally.

No, but she did some stupid things and left a record. In her case it's more that you can't protest that you did something when you were young and stupid when it was last week.

Some intensely lol-worthy scare quotes around the word "offensive" in that title. What on earth are BBC trying to signal with that other than they think the outcry is overblown?

They’re ‘signalling’ that the description of the blog post is a quote rather than their own.

unfortunately it's basic journalistic rear end-covering to put scare quotes around anything normative in a headline

Its not really scare quotes, its just to indicate they themselves are not saying the tweets are offensive but rather reporting on someone else saying they're offensive. Otherwise you'd need really long headlines.

same thing they did when apartheid south africa wanted to come over and play cricket like they were civilized people - tear up the drat pitch. block the roads so he can't get around, stage big, screaming rallies wherever he goes and generally do everything in our power to make it abundantly clear that regardless of what geopolitical realities obligate our government to do, the people do not want him here. in short, do to him what he does to thousands of vulnerable men, women and children every day - tell him gently caress off because he is not welcome here.

the police just make this more difficult - it's still worth trying, imo. i've gotta book my tickets to edinburgh for the saturday rally actually.
