Quinnipiac is fine

Well again, it's the wording. It's a front loaded question that offers 3 options (5 is safer and allows for 'somewhat' answers). Most research I have experience with regarding questions is just a college class, but we did a few reports and questionnaires.

Basically the wording is ambiguous and is up to the reader to decode. "Dont you think he is racist?" Would be fine except that it leads the question into an (probably correct) assumption. The adding to the end is really what gets me because it says basically 'or dont you'at the end. That part can be removed imo. I'm pretty sure some people saw the 'dont' and thought that meant 'I dont think hes a racist, so yes' we have all seen a lot stupider happen.

Maybe the results are fine, but they threw up flags for me is all. I've been reading a lot of studies recently and the questions just weren't as clear as they could have been.

Why the gently caress is everyone so fast to defend an awful ambiguously worded lovely question just because it confirms our ( probably 100% correct ) assumptions? Sure the organization is good, but the intern working this might suck. Everyone has bad days.

It's a lovely question where you can actually answer yes to either part.

"Do you think Donald Trump is a racist (yes) , or don't you think so? (Yes) "

A poll question should never be designed that way. It is actually a bad question.

Can it be controlled for? Probably.
Is it even a control itself? Who knows?
Are they using it to farm statistics they want? Maybe too.

Is falling over yourself to White Knight the poor polling organization idiotic? Def.

Someone who uses Twitter go tag 538 and ask them their thoughts. Isn't that how this social media thing works?

as the world turns
Just a side note: question wording is one of the most difficult things a pollster does, so it's likely not an intern-designed thing. The interns likely run the interviews off the script, since any little word prompt in the question, from "Republican" to "Democrat" to "right track / wrong track" can throw poo poo off.

Here's a very recent result, for the child separation immigration policy:

https://twitter.com/aedwardslevy/status/1011336982994309121

The polling goes wildly between -21 to -50 on the issue, depending on the sample, field date, question wording, survey methodology, etc. And that's how most of these go when they get aggregated!

So, Quinnipiac is a very good pollster that tends to lean a few points Democratic as a house effect, if I remember correctly. You shouldn't listen to them alone and you shouldn't listen to any pollster alone.

The plus side is even with a 29 pt difference between the two extremes there's one thing we can say with a reasonable degree of certainty. Family separation is NOT a popular policy.

Nope, intro to research methods. Basically, we dove into the process of how these things get done. Im not a poly sci major either. I am in communication studies. Since we were communication students, one of the things we got hit on the most was our questionnaires.

That's why I'm, again, focusing on the questions wording and not the content. I think he is a racist piece of poo poo.

I also have the right to question facts. I'm ok with learning the truth and being proved wrong. There is a lot of disinformation out there that makes it difficult to accept news without confirming it from multiple sources or asking questions that should be answered.

But got it. They are reputable. Still wrote that question like crap.

Child marriage is totally still a thing in the United States and is rabidly defended by major Christian groups as their god's will. Most states will marry 16 and up with "parental consent" (even if the child appears to have been coerced into the arrangement) and many states have no lower limit so long as there is a judge who will wave it through.

I've never understood why politicians don't target obvious awfulness like this and then campaign like hell on their victory over it. "My opponent disingenuously whines about the deficit, while I've gotten poo poo done for America: abolishing child marriage, daylight savings time, and coins in denominations under 25 cents!"

To the surprise of virtually no one this is only in deep red states and people have definitely campaigned against it.
