His big follow-up to Titanic was an adaptation of The Man In the Iron Mask, which you can watch as a kind of pseudo-trilogy along with the other big, flashy Alexandre Dumas adaptations in the 90s along with the Disney version of The Three Mustketeers with Chris O'Donnell as D'Artagnan and the version of The Count of Monte Criso with Jim Caviezel. You can even throw in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves while you're at it.

But you're completely right that they are the proto britpop band. And I didn't include Blur with Manchester, it was something I read in a Q magazine years ago, and it was more in the context "that's why they couldn't see more success, because they were being associated with a dying scene". I honestly thought Cornershop was a Canadian band. That song got played all the time in the 90s here, and that normally happens only with Canadian bands. But yea, they're 100% britpop based on sound.

My mum thought blur were a bunch of posers. Says they presaged the whole trend you see now where all the guitar bands are public school sorts whose parents bought them their instruments. I don't know about that though I know it's the stereotype around blur; I like their music well enough but know very little about them themselves.

No, it's not that. My parents bought me my saxophone for my birthday 15 years ago (still sounds great) so I'm not apt to complain. It's partly this idea that's discussed a lot in the British music and theatre press that working class kids (like the Gallagher brothers) have a much harder time getting into the arts today than they used to, and partly the whole stereotype that developed around blur back in the 90s (I wasn't paying attention - I don't know if it's fun or not) being the middle-class band who could switch their accents on and off depending who they were speaking to. Edit: I'm not necessarily making a value judgment about it - my parents gave me my first saxophone 15 years ago (still plays well) so I would be hypocritical if I did so. Okay, so its a modern meme, but this is the best thing I can show to explain how weird and terrible fansubs were in the 90s. You'd send away 40bux to get the first 8 episodes of Utena, and they'd come back with the subs being full of swearing, random Japanese words (that had explainations) that were totally unnesscary. Of course it's because western anime fans used to be (probably still are - I haven't been into for a while) really hung-up on it being "adult" and everything. I also remember one forum I posted on circa 2007 where the anime thread was people bitching that Pokémon had been bowdlerised by the dubbers. Of course, the greatest anime dub of all time - Angel Cop - came about because they got a bunch of English voice actors doing questionable American accents who were explicitly told to "15 it up" by putting in a bunch of swearing.

It's because they think the words are important and lose some degree of definition in translation. Whereas instead they lose total understanding by dragging the viewer's attention away to get the dictionary definition for this one untranslated word.A good example is actually in the official Dangan Ronpa translations; He's called Monokuma, because that's his name  . Except if you already understand Japanese, you know kuma means bear, so why not take that small step and translate it to Monobear? It's not exactly butchering the original script to translate the names to preserve the intended meaning.

Because Monobear sounds bad to English ears. Theres an argument that translation isnt always about 1:1 accuracy but getting across meaning. FFXIV has puns. Like a lot of loving puns. Every quest name is a pun or cultural reference. You couldnt translate them from Japanese because it'd make no sense to English ears. So they substitute English puns and references.
