There's still tons of them in Asian Toys R Us. They even have official Rubik pyramids and bulit-your-own cubes.

12 year old brother recently went to a Rubik's Cube phase after having given up on fidget spinners. I think there was some kind of Revival based on 80s nostalgia and if I had to guess I would assume that there was at least one famous YouTuber who is popular with children and used the Rubik Cube because otherwise I can't imagine why my brother would even know what one was?

The flat one is great for kids because you can just do all sorts of shapes with it you wouldn't think at first. Like one of those finger splitters but with actual play value.
