For me, it's because every area of Earthworm Jim is entirely different from every other one, with different enemies, mechanics, music and everything. Constant creativity is one of the single most important things about videogames to me and it's astonishing how many of them completely fail to do it; not even out of incompetence or budget, but because it's seemingly not even considered as important. Every time a game reuses an enemy or a song or brings a level template back long after I thought it was done with, the game gets weaker in my eyes. It's why Dynamite Headdy is a god drat masterpiece, whereas I struggle to finish pretty much any 2D Mario game.

did we play the same earthworm jim with the bouncing puppies across a room three loving times

I remember really hating Hitman ABsolution back in the day. Revisiting it... it is still bad, but I guess I have lower expectations so a few things are fun.

I played that Octopath demo. English voice acting was bad but can be turned off, writing was generally passable to ok, combat was fine, the different systems seemed cool, style grew on me... overall not sure if it's worth the investment it wants from me. I'm gonna wait and see how people feel about the whole thing

octopath is basically asking you, have you ever liked a saga game

if you choose the third option, which is "i've never played one," well, now's a great time to try. consider that your extended demo

I'm really looking forward to octopath and the demo is fantastic, but I'm fully preparing myself for disappointment. there are lots of aspects of the demo that kinda leave me wanting, like the skill and job systems seem really slight, and like half of the path actions kinda do the same things. lotta stuff that tells me maybe their ambition exceeded their timeline and budget

at least it'll probably be better than the furyu saga games though

Has anyone tried Rise to Ruin? Did you like it?

https://store.steampowered.com/app/328080/Rise_to_Ruins/

It popped up in my queue and it looked interesting enough to try for $5. Pixel graphics city builder sim in the vein of God game builders like Actraiser and Godus, but with inspiration pulled from Banished where you manage the survival of a small stone age (ish) community in a harsh and uncaring world.

I played it for about an hour and a half before returning it. Despite the good reviews, I felt like the game was too thin on content. Moreover, the UI is obnoxious and clunky and makes the managing of your town suck on ice.

I wanted to give its early access status a chance. Today was the first time I've heard about Rise to Ruin and so I assumed the game was brand new and this is just an early draft. Nope. Launched on steam October 26, 2014 after a successful September 2014 Kickstarter campaign. Yikes.

Can someone tell me which games I should play first on this list?

Starcraft 2 : second half of zerg campaign.
Witcher 2: I'm about halfway through the dwarf city level and it's a little boring? I also have witcher 3 which I haven't touched.
Dishonored: on 'return to the tower' level. I also have dishonored 2 which I haven't touched.
Prey: Mooncrash (unlocked all exits so far, still need to do quests)
LIS: before the storm (the final ep with max, only)

I think it would be okay if I could at least guarantee Link's stealth OHKO to work, but half the time even when the drat prompt is on the screen he just does a regular attack for reasons I don't understand...and when that happens, three to five overpowered enemies get aggroed and I can't escape and welp.

That section definitely sucked although once you know it it's not too bad. Going up to that little roof alcove with all the mighty bananas helps, from there you can stay at ceiling level, drop down to go into that little side room with 600 rupees, and then there's only like 2 guards you have to distract from there to be free and clear.
