Kommando posted:Wait. My wage is plus super, not including super. Superannuation payments are in lieu of your full wage, not in addition to it. The theory of super is that it's money you're owed for your work but instead of being included in your wages it is instead put in a special account on your behalf and given favourable tax settings. If superannuation was abolished tomorrow, theoretically employers would add their super contributions to your wage (that wouldn't happen of course but that's the basis of the system).

Almost nil doping of horses and greyhounds in Qld, positive or negative, those that do get slaps on the wrists with three and six months suspension. Historically there were some big fines, and the structure of the integrity body changed last year. For the better iirc. The owners of the animals rarely interact with them and see them as revenue streams.

ALL high schools would have to have specialist math and science teachers under a Federal government plan to stop Australian students falling behind nations like Russia and Estonia. Education minister Simon Birmingham also flagged cash could be withheld from universities unless they enrol students in science teaching courses to fill the need. It is also intended to reverse the falling numbers of students choosing to take advanced math and science classes in Years 11 and 12. In a speech to be delivered today at the National Conference of the Australian Science Teachers Association, Senator Birmingham will say every school will have to have at least one teacher with specialist skills in math and science. “It’s unacceptable that secondary school students are taught science or maths subjects by people without specialist skills in science and maths,” he said. “Every high school should have access to specialist teachers to teach specialist science and maths subjects. And we should strive to achieve this within the next five to 10 years.” Australian Council for Educational Research in 2013 showed almost 20 per cent of general science teachers in years 7 to 10 had not completed at least one year of tertiary study in that area. While the Federal Government does not directly hire and fire teachers, it would work with the states to ensure each school had at least one teacher each in math and science with specialised tertiary training in that areas. Senator Birmingham said the state governments should make clear to universities where employment priorities were and incentivise people to specialise in physics, chemistry, biology, technology or maths. “If need be, federal funding powers over university places could be used to influence enrolment to secure the science teachers we need for the future,” he said. Math is compulsory in schools in Sweden, Japan, Korea, Russia, Finland, Taiwan and Estonia, with each of those countries outperforming Australia in the 2016 Program for International Student Assessment (PISA). A recent report from Australia’s chief scientist noted there was no national requirement for math and science teachers to undertake specified hours of professional learning in discipline specific content.

The quarterly analysis, conducted exclusively for Fairfax Media, confirms the horror slide for the Coalition since the last election in the most-populous states, where the government must recover ground if it is to retain power at the election due by May. The Coalition would lose as many as 18 seats if the latest poll was reflected at a general election, given the government is trailing Labor in Queensland by 48 to 52 per cent, in NSW by 47 to 53 per cent and in Victoria by 44 to 56 per cent in two-party terms. If replicated at an election, this would see the government lose Queensland seats such as Capricornia, Forde, Flynn, Dickson, Petrie, Dawson, Bonner, Leichhardt and Brisbane. The casualties would include Peter Dutton, the Home Affairs Minister, who holds Dickson by a margin of 1.6 per cent. The swings against the government in NSW, if replicated at an election, would see it lose Gilmore, Robertson, Page and Banks. In Victoria it would lose Chisholm, Dunkley, La Trobe and Corangamite. It could also lose the West Australian seat of Hasluck if the state polling results were repeated seat-by-seat in each state. NTRabbit fucked around with this message at 00:04 on Jul 9, 2018 |
