The multiplayer is built on GGPO (surprising some people who seem to think Riot own it because they hired the team that developed it) so at the very worst it's going to be playable. I'm probably picking it up soon because it looks really cool and I like the Neo Geo Pocket Colour.

Sick! I glossed over that the netcode is GGPO. I'm only familiar with it from Skullgirls, but it was the best online experience with a fighting that I've had.

Dallas Mavericks: Generations

jetpackhewy posted:

This is only applicable if you bought the base game. Capcom has since released SSF4AE which is a lot cheaper and includes most, if not all, the dlc.

Edit: While I do think the dlc is priced fairly, Nintendo could do something similar to this. Like discount dlc bundles for those who could wait.

If you bought SSF4AE digitally it doesn't include the DLC costumes.

Market (number of copies sold) is smaller + shipping distance is longer = a reason for a commodity to cost more. Shipping a million copies of a game to NY through a direct hub flight like LA is a bitch load cheaper than selling 10k copies of a game to St. John’s through a less flown or driven (and longer) route. That alone is enough reason to justify a higher price tag on a game.

Go ask a person from NL, Saskatoon or Edmonton what they pay for chicken. It’s a large country with low demand and a logistical system that isn’t efficient, which drives prices up. The quickest drive from St. John’s to Vancouver is through America, if you are shipping anything via truck, and that entails 2 border crossings.

Edit: We have similar price hikes in the US if the location is Alaska or Hawaii.

Can you read? None of what you're saying wasn't also true in the Gamecube era.

That price hike is Canada wide. St. John's isn't any further from Vancouver now than it was in 2006. It's not like big population centres like Toronto have a discount either.

offtopic but semi on-topic, no fighting game will ever be as worse a value as SFV which has like hundreds of cool costumes/stages/soundtracks/DLC characters but nickle and dimes EVERYTHING behind the most tedious slogfest of a grind in existence. I can't think of a game that holds back as much rad poo poo as SFV, it's got to be the most anti-consumer fighter in existence.

I didn't include any Mii Fighter costumes that didn't come with the character or stage packs in my examples, so I won't, but SFV has all their character and stage DLC unlockable with in-game currency if you do not wish to spend a premium to get that stuff. If you include Mii Fighter costumes, that adds another $50 USD

Over half the poo poo in the DLC was returning characters and stages (how hard is it to really dump Dreamland 64 into a game for the 3rd or 4th time), Lucas and Roy are, what we used to call clones—Smash 4 is a categorical fleecing for a consumer

But you didn't notice buying it piecemeal

Ah yes, because a character or stage returning from a previous game means zero development work went into it, and if they charge any money for it at all, it's a fleecing.

True, I wholesale disavowed the entire concept of paid DLC, and didn't offer like-comparisons to other products that provided better value per dollar

I got 11 characters from the first two seasons of SFV (Everyone except Ed) + Sakura/Falke from season 3 with the fight money I got doing survival with everyone on easy/medium and story mode stuff (and I still have enough for one more character) but they patched it so you can't get FM like that anymore

it seems like you pretty much have to pay now

They didn't change this at all, actually. You still get XP for doing character stories/survival/trials, and get 1000FM every time a character levels up. I just got ~15k FM for running Cody through those exact things.

AFAIK the only thing they did change was halve the weekly mission FM amounts (which still sucks).

*Insert Sailor Jupiter joke here*
I preferred the 3DS version of Smash to the Wii U version.

Having that more reigned in classic mode and smash run as opposed to gimmick city, 8-player battles in single player and that godawful smash tour mode definitely helped, the fact that the Wii U version seemed to feel more like a strange expansion of brawl didn't help its case (I liked brawl but i didn't want half of the sequel to be recycled from it.)

'You could maybe argue regarding multiplayer but I don't get any enjoyment from playing against people with better internet than me.

True, but Hand of Fate 2 is a good pick, too. I loved the original and the second is a big improvement.

Best and worst Kirby games?

Superstar/Ultra and Planet Robobot are the best of the traditional games, the worst are Squeak Squad and Star Allies and they're not even that bad, just by-the-numbers.

Of the spinoffs, I really like Kirby's Dream Course and Canvas Curse and never cared for Kirby's Pinball Land.

Look on the bright side.

Best is Super Star or its DS remake Super Star Ultra. There really aren’t any bad Kirby games but if I had to choose, I’d say Rainbow Curse. Even that game still has amazing visuals and an awesome soundtrack though.
