FAUXTON posted:$80 worth of sushi at once is like what a table of 4 would order. It was a to-go order. It was probably 2-3 signature rolls or something. Sushi places here in redneckistan florida have rolls in the $20 range so I wouldn't be surprised to see an $80 tab in DC for a single person at a semi-swank sushi place.

The Trumpians have been confined to the Navy Yard area, which is nothing but luxury apartments and a cultural wasteland (the perfect spot from which to Make America Great Again), so you can bet the sushi there is overpriced as hell compared to the rest of DC.

It's more like they're quarantined to the wharf area so they never have to see anybody darker than vanilla yogurt. Those apartments are dumb and insanely expensive; like 3.5k for a 1br.

More UK government collapse news: Borris Johnson is gone, foreign secretary. He's the guy with the dumb hair, probably the second most important person in the government, at least in terms of trying to take over the Tory party. I'm going out to get beer, I want to enjoy all this poo poo.

Even if we don't end up a full-blown general election, there's definite scope for Tory leadership contest. That takes around 3 months to complete - 3 months of negotiating time we don't have when both sides wanted an outline Brexit deal to be sorted by October. We are well and truly hosed.

Orlando Furioso posted:Even if we don't end up a full-blown general election, there's definite scope for Tory leadership contest. This was all laid out years ago when Brexit first came up. Like, each step has been crystal clear and May and the rest of the government continued to act like they are living in some fantasy land where they can tell the British public one thing and the EU the complete opposite and still manage to come together. Stuff like Irish border difficulties leading to movement of goods and people difficulties is completely obvious if you want to take a minute to actually think about it instead of just hand wave the difficulties away. Edit: This is why avoiding slogans or simple objectives and focusing on concrete plans and paths forward is important. Brexit! or Dissolve ICE! just create a simple, imaginary path forward and allows people to ignore all the difficulties and pitfalls that might be in the way by making jumps in logic because they can't see the big picture. The Irish border thing is the best part of it all. "No free movement except for Ireland. And also all flights from Northern Ireland to the UK are domestic." So why wouldn't someone just fly into Dublin and drive to Belfast.

It's still amazing that they triggered the exit clause which will automatically end the UK's EU membership after two years, no matter if any exit agreement or interim agreements have been worked out. Unless every single other EU member agrees to an extension of the deadline. All the cards are in the EU's hand, because a hard Brexit will be bad for both sides, but far worse for Britain. That was political malpractice of the highest order.

Everyone backing this dumb idea knew the obvious outcome of leaving the negotiations up to the Tories, knew the Tories would be the ones doing the negotiating, and backed it anyway. Hell that's worse than the mere negligence implied by malpractice, it's straight up intentional harm. It'd be one thing if Labour was in power at the time and were expected to maintain hold of parliament but they didn't and weren't expected to regain power. That's a bet on a horse that ain't even breathing.

People will follow the simple slogan in the face of complexity because they can understand the slogan and then don't have to think the process through. Applying systems thinking to politics, pushing people to actually avoid making those leaps in logic and think the process through can help moderate political views.
