Bought one about a week ago after noodling with it at my local store for half an hour and am really enjoying it. It uses an FPGA instead of a DSP to generate waveforms but has analog filters. One of my favorite things about it is the layout makes for minimal menu diving, and stuff that involves the menus (the mod matrix) feels really intuitive for me. Also a big fan of the built in effects (chorus, delay, and reverb). I haven't gotten too deep into sound design with it yet, but it hasn't been too hard for me to dial in some cool sounds starting from an init patch. am i the only one who thinks that needint to tune a synth makes it feel more like a real instrument? its def more guitar than piano in that aspect, esp with VCOs, and playing an instrument where intonation matters keeps me more in tune with it  im weird af tho i play a 6U and dont want more module (except to make my vidsynth, but thats a whole nother instrument so i dont count it :-p) anyway i 8 saiyan this to h8 on digital gear or nothin (thats reserved for video adcs) just, explaining how i relate to analog instruments. plus the fact that body heat influences their operation is just

I’m legitimately curious.  even all the digital synths ive played have had tuning adjustment so you can play it in a band setting was talkin more about analog gear, yeah, cuz its like tuning a guitar, much more adjustable intonation. one time i was tryin out for a band and i plugged in my mono/poly and told em id have to tune it, they looked at me likeni id growed another head!

A lot of classic analogue synths, as well as modern ones like the Behringer Model D, need to be turned on and "warm up" a bit for the oscillators to "settle" for lack of a better word. There are tuning adjustment knobs on my Model D for each oscillator and a toggle switch for A440 so I can tune to that. The knobs are also useful for purposefully de-tuning oscillators to create fatter sounds, or making intervals for chords etc, on what is actually a monophonic synth.

My microbrute takes a bit to warm up and stay in tune, and I do have to turn the tuning knob fairly regularly especially if I'm about to record it

Use your God-given right to return it within 30 days if you find out that Synth1 does the same and better. (Korg's MS-engine has some very slick sounds, it's early VA, so don't expect meticulously modeled diode ladder poo poo)

Weird niche question. Does anyone know if it’s possible to download a fully produced, finished song as a project file into Logic Pro x strictly for learning purposes? I’m teaching myself the ropes of the program, but I’d love to try and work backwards from something that is already well made, go into the nooks and crannies of it and see what the original creator did, and what adjusting those parameters does to alter the sound.

The problem with this though is that you'd have to have all the same plugins, etc. and if any audio was bounced then it's kinda worthless. Also you'd need someone to agree to making their finished project public

The Modal 002 and 008 were pretty spectacular pieces and before that there was the MonoWave. However: - she's no longer working at Modal, so I don't know if she's involved in this product - I don't know if putting it on Kickstarter says something about the financial status of Modal (why not just build it and sell it?) - lastly: the "why I started a new company" subscript for Dove Audio might imply (but I could be reading into something) that the separation from Modal wasn't really amicable (and of course the truth is never going to come out) so I don't know if they've found anyone who now delivers the DSP brain. I could be completely full of poo poo though. In almost any case you have one or two really talented devs who do a lot of important work, so it's their dedication (and craft in terms of having bug-free poo poo) that saves (or ruins) the day.

The components snap around nicely and it's super intuitive, and the best part is I don't have to replug any physical things or fire up a heavier-weight DAW to just play around live. Also the trial period can be extended from a session of 10 minutes to say, quintillions of years beyond the entropic destruction of the solar system if a certain countdown timer value expressed in seconds as a little endian float at a certain binary offset is appropriately modified. [1]Some disassembly required. [2]Purchase required upon resumption of standard working hours.
