i feel like a lot of the topical stuff in this new Lupin is just kinda there for some shallow relevancy (that it doesn't need), and the show is also exacerbating the issues of part 4's overarching story/Rebecca, but yeah both Ami's interrogation of Lupin's relationships and Albert being introduced are really interesting explorations of the characters that haven't been done in what i've seen of past Lupin.

I haven't been keeping up with it but I loved the first arc of part 5. It was clearly trying really hard to be topical but it tackled topics in a way that wasn't just surface dressing while also being very lupin. It might have gotten worse about that though, lol

I think the biggest misstep in that regard was Ami revealing that she was abducted by child pornographers. That's a pretty heavy thing to just drop in passing in the middle of an episode where an anachronistic samurai fights a guy who dual-wields fishing rods.

i think a creator hating a character usually shows more in how a character is portrayed as a person and how much regard the story has for them than in how much they undergo in their arc as a character tho even then it's totally possible for an artist to love a character who's just treated as a joke
