why

plenty of things in art are true without being explicitly shown to be true. thats literally the reason art exists. all art is implication, the things explicitly told serving to imply other things. either within the narrative itself, or about the real world, the viewer. why does this rule only apply when it comes to a dude cornholing another dude. heterosexuality isnt the default state of being.

and if your argument is going to be 'the creators/writers didn't intend it,' then, well, a lot of things in art arent intended by the artist, either, but still exist as a valid reading.

I agree that it's not actually realistic, but it's well within the baseline suspension of disbelief for the Lupin franchise, IMO.

i feel like a lot of the topical stuff in this new Lupin is just kinda there for some shallow relevancy (that it doesn't need), and the show is also exacerbating the issues of part 4's overarching story/Rebecca, but yeah both Ami's interrogation of Lupin's relationships and Albert being introduced are really interesting explorations of the characters that haven't been done in what i've seen of past Lupin.

I haven't been keeping up with it but I loved the first arc of part 5. It was clearly trying really hard to be topical but it tackled topics in a way that wasn't just surface dressing while also being very lupin. It might have gotten worse about that though, lol

That's fair. I think the biggest misstep in that regard was Ami revealing that she was abducted by child pornographers. That's a pretty heavy thing to just drop in passing in the middle of an episode where an anachronistic samurai fights a guy who dual-wields fishing rods.

nono wanted to mack on lal'c from the moment she saw her, the story is about those shallow feelings blossoming into a close friendship and eventually mutual love, imo

The director for idol witches is Shouji Saeki who directed Houkago no Pleiades and directed-scripted-storyboarded the episode of Strike Witches where they build a three-stage rocket to propel two girls into suborbital flight and destroy a space alien while a duet about their love for each other plays. likely a reference to the Soviet Union mission by Yuri that sent humans into space for the first time in human history

one of the best parts of yama no susume is that they're willing to let animators do their own stuff with how individual episodes look, it would be weird if the entire series suddenly shifted to the style in this episode but as just a one-time one-man key animator thing, it was really cool and interesting to watch imo

Albert is explictly gay and is framed as a mirror to lupin

That isn't the strongest argument that Lupin's gay, considering how he acted as a mirror in that first appearance.

He wasn't just Lupin's equal. He was Lupin's opposite. Where Lupin is a surprisingly moral thief, Albert was a secretly dirty cop. Where Lupin was only drawn into the episode's mess, Albert set it up.

Albert's a gay man who's been in one relationship for years. Women are attracted to him, but they understand it's a no-go, because he's committed. (And also paranoid enough that disguising yourself as his significant other won't prevent him from seeing your little plot coming.)That's not a setup you pick to show that he and Lupin (Who has "flirts with and probably gets suckered by every woman in a three mile radius" as a defining trait) are identical. It's showing them as opposites.

Oh, I never heard about that. Do you know if they wanted it to be, like, a happy ending for Nono/Lal'c, or like a 1000 years later thing like Gunbuster?

Angolmois was :black101: as gently caress, with a great aesthetic (although I can see why some folks might get irritated by that filter). Kind of felt like a Sword of the Stranger homage in places, which is a funny coincidence considering that Ando has a show this season.

i think a creator hating a character usually shows more in how a character is portrayed as a person and how much regard the story has for them than in how much they undergo in their arc as a character

tho even then it's totally possible for an artist to love a character who's just treated as a joke

Example: Mr. Satan.

Hell, sometimes you can tell how much an author likes a character by how much they get dumped on. You look at Bakugo, he's constantly getting mocked, undermined, and tossed about, and it's clearly because Horikoshi likes the guy.
