It's been amusing watching my mom slowly realize that most of her political beliefs are founded on bullshit because my dad isn't around to constantly have fox news on. The democrats want to abolish ICE! That means open borders! No mom, abolishing ICE doesn't mean open borders. No country has open borders. Then who will watch the borders? Customs and Border Protection. They're the people that watch the borders. Typical democrat waste to create another agency! No mom, CBP already exists and has existed for a long time. Oh.

My mom is a lot more moderate than she realized, my dad was just insanely fox news republican and it washed over her own political beliefs over the years. So it's kind of like deprogramming over time. She voted for Obama in 2008 but never told my dad because he would've flipped a pancake.

I’ve seen family waste away from cancer but keep their dignity but there is none of that when your brain literally turns into mosh.

My mom and dad have always kinda been center right[The "Fiscally conservative, socially liberal crew"], but she contracted really bad agoraphobia/xenophobia over the last couple of years due to personal poo poo and the 24 hr news cycle kinda broke her brain and sent her right enough to be kinda racist. My parents are in that spot where it gets fuzzy if they're Baby Boomers or Gen X, but we're all pretty liberal. I think my parents are kinda centrist socially. The worst thing I have against my dad is that he's a fan of Bill Maher, and my brother is a little too anti-GMO.

I spent five minutes at work when I was about ten and heard the following conversation: "Mom, I'm here, do you know who I am?" "No dear, are you new here?" Nope'd the gently caress out and absolutely refused to go back inside ever again. If she wanted anything she met me outside.

Boomer mom was a “Republican for Obama” who went centrist democrat in 2007. She hated Trump and preferred Bernie to Clinton. She didn’t live to see Trump win. Bio father was also a boomer, centrist Republican who stays Republican despite being a defense attorney, vigorously fighting for significant criminal justice reform, having been a hippie in he 70s, and having lived in the New Orleans French Quarter surrounded by minorities and the gay community. He dislikes Trump but is still Republican. Stepfather is a boomer who didn’t talk much about politics. After Trump, he said he went from voting for both democrats and republicans over the years to going straight D because he was sick of watching “reasonable” republican elected officials support Trump.

My father immigrated here fleeing drug violence in Colombia and looking the prospects of a better life. He got his citizenship in like....2007 or 2008? My mother is a white catholic polish/italian mix. My mother is very pro women power, pro females and somehow supports Trump. My dad thinks Trump is super smart and sticking it to the man and doing awesome. Neither liked or voted for Obama, We all voted for Bush Term 1, and they voted for Bush term 2. We never discussed politics much but I had gay friends around the house and alot of black friends and it was never an issue, parents super welcoming and loving of my gay friends, one of them is like a second son to my mother, but somehow they are SUPER REPUBLICAN now. Like vote straight ticket. My mother was for Hilary leading up to the election and suddenly switched to trump at some point. idk I have always loved current events, studied international relations, interned at a ~* thinktank*~ and basically paying attention to Iraq and Afghanistan made me realize how loving dumb the republicans are after being part of Young Republicans and working in Marco Rubio's campaign in college. All my dad watches is Fox News. When I was a kid we used to watch CNN and CBS together, but at some point he started watching fox after I went to college and that was it. I used to vote fairly republican and am now about dat straight D....no homo but universal healthcare, abolish ice, tax over a couple million at 90% like lets redistribute the wealth whatever equal rights for everyone and gays should get all the cakes they want. I have no idea how my father reconciles receiving asylum here and denying it to other people. He's also dark as gently caress so idk man. its weird.
