I scoured my Facebook to find something good to post to not fall into the "you can't complain you didn't post content" trap, but I've failed. Just drat y'all. I think Ask/Tell and D&D probably have threads about sexuality. I know E/N has a trans thread and GBS probably has a bunch of threads about it whenever it becomes news or significant internet drama compared to a kickstarter for a hot dog stand.

Having lived in both Calgary and Toronto, I can assure you Calgary is not cleaner, unless you never leave the suburbs.

My favorite puke story was on an afternoon rush hour bus, filled with tired businessfolk. Someone puked 10 city blocks from our final stop (which was a transfer to a bunch of other buses). I have never before or since seen 50 people all pretend to not see liquid vomit running down the center aisle of the bus. We pulled it off too, driver didn't notice until like 3 blocks away, which is an easy walk.

I’ve got first hand experience of finding out if you can convey to the bus driver you’re about to blow chunks, you can get off the bus anywhere.

I think of corncobbing as refusing to admit you've lost or not "taking the L and moving on." What Weatherman is talking about is more like acknowledging that you've lost, but saying "that's okay because I actually wanted to lose." More like https://twitter.com/dril/status/460673146451161088 than https://twitter.com/dril/status/134787490526658561 "Victory w(h)ining," maybe?

Wait? Were all these creepy dudes 10 when the original Incredibles came out and didn't realize Elasticgirl had an rear end? Oh God, they were 10 weren't they? I am so old. And the irony of sexually objectifying a woman's larger than typical rear end and then following it up with a fat joke on the Amy Schumer poster.

there wolf posted:That's Homer specifically. The sky was bronze and the sea was like wine. The word for blue shows up later in languages than most other colors, and that's launched a whole debate over how humans see color; in languages with the same word for green and blue, what was the difference between sky and leaves. I remember the last time this came up, someone posted a study about tribe that didn't have a word for "blue." They had a really hard time distinguishing between green and blue, but were spot on at differentiating between leaf green and moss green or whatever. The going theory was that people tended to come up with words for colors when they were able to produce dyes/paints of that color, which is why Egyptians came up with "blue" first, and other civilizations invented the word around the time they started trading with Egypt. Conversely, it's hard to distinguish between colors if you don't have a mental way to categorize them.

There's an interesting linguistic analysis here, which also includes an Ancient Greek color palette (according to contemporary descriptions) that answers what color they saw the sky as being.
