as the world turns

He apparently just held a presser where he claimed NATO countries pledged to increase above past targets (Macron immediately denied it), the Secretary-General cancelled a whole bunch of meetings because of Trump's demand, then Trump declared victory and basically left.

Played a bunch of greatest hits (deployed the "very stable genius" line to a Croat press question) and now suddenly Trump's father was from Germany instead of his grandfather.

I think he got bored and decided to gently caress everything up, claim it was fixed, then leave.

I think that actually might be the *one* thing that he wouldn't get. As much as congress likes to pretend to be concerned and not actually do anything, you know who would get pretty loving pissed off if we unilaterally just left NATO?

Defense contractors and such. It's not happening without a long protracted fight and if it does, expect John McCain to show up, vote no and then die on the floor.

Bush unilaterally withdrew the United States from the ABM Treaty in 2002, six months after giving the required notice of intent" - Wikipedia

100%. He's a republican appointed to a seat for life already and makes rulings that his benefactors like. Marco Rubio is another with a billionaire sugar daddy that paid off $300k of his own personal debt.

His finances are just weird, even if nothing illegal took place.

Assets, less house and retirement account, are reported at $15,000-65,000. Owes ~$865,000 on a $1.2 million home. Retirement account is what it is, nothing weird there.

So this dude is a 53-year-old federal judge who hasn't managed to really save much liquid money at all, has paid off maybe 1/3 of his house, and he used to be tens or hundreds of thousands in debt. This was because he was using credit cards and TSP loans to buy season baseball tickets for himself and his friends, and apparently in 2017, he made his friends finally reimburse him to the tune of tens or hundreds of thousands? Even if that's all 100% accurate and legal, somebody get this guy a goddamned financial manager.

This does not surprise me. I had three different Baltic state officers describe this as a devil's choice where they could either work for Nazis, who claimed they probably wouldn't exterminate them, or could try to sign up for the Soviets, who openly said they were going to crush Baltic people's lives regardless. This might not be accurate, but that's how they saw it. See also: Finland

That's my thing. For a man in his position, and his social exposure, coupled with the fact he got set up for life about 25 years ago, it doesn't smell right. If anything else, he should've been coached in debt exposure as a part of his job. I know some sensitive jobs have periodic check ins, and I can't see why he wasn't included or counseled on it.

quote:

Bill Lipton, state director of the Working Families Party, said he immediately reached out to Mr. Crowley’s campaign to request that he vacate the line.

To Mr. Lipton’s chagrin, his campaign declined

I didn't read it that way based on the above quote. Sounds like Crowley could have backed out and declined to, now spurring a 3rd party challenge.

In Mr. Crowley’s case, vacating the line is not that simple. A quick google and some napkin math gives me this very rough conclusion.

Minimum payments on a (very favorable) 50k credit card debt. 2 grand a month x 3 = 6000 / month
Payments on a 50k TSP loan = 500 / month
Payments on a 865k mortgage = 4000 / month
= about 10,500 / month

Federal judge makes about 210,000 a year, and I think he lives in DC, which gives him a rough take home of $11,300 a month.

So unless he has a sugar momma, 11,300 - 10,500 a month = :maga:
