I never buy new Macs but if Apple actually releases a MBP with fixed keyboard and is actually thicker than the previous gen I'll eat my hat and buy one on release day full MSRP.

Like only the old ones get to be that color. Yes, it's disappeared as a choice when you go to buy either 13-inch or 15-inch. And there's nothing but 2016/2017 models in the refurb area. It's pretty disgusting that they have a single old school Mac Mini up for grabs for $419 with 4 GB of RAM.. Binary Badger fucked around with this message at 20:02 on Jul 12, 2018 |

So has Apple offered any explanation why for years they have defended the 16GB max by saying they didn't want to use desktop RAM that would reduce battery life, but then are doing it now anyway?

Proteus Jones posted:Because they aren’t? I thought there’s DDR4 specifically for low power for a while. If that were true, they'd be using DDR4L or LPDDR4, but they're not. They're using plain old DDR4, because Intel's CPUs don't yet support LPDDR4. Low power DDR4 exists, but Intel can't use it. Edit: This is also probably part of why battery got bigger for the same battery life, the other part being thirstier CPUs.

I just assume they were trying to wait out for LPDDR4, gave up, and found a better way to glue the insides together to squeeze in the extra battery to compensate.

Maybe they just got tired of people complaining about it. Or they found enough power savings elsewhere to offset it.

Is there a benchmark comparing this to older MBPs? I have late-2013 2.3GHz i7 and am curious about the performance difference. Specifically 2.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor (Turbo Boost up to 3.5GHz) with 6MB shared L3 cache

I like that they‘re so ashamed of what must be a 14nm mobile Polaris dGPU that they basically list it as „a powerful GPU“ in most spec sheets.

From what I understood they only showcased the laptops to journalists etc in a controlled environment so it’s doubtful. One thing I read had the guy saying he couldn’t compare the gen1/gen2 keyboards against the new gen3 side by side for a noise comparison even.
