Even having not paid for this game for like 3 years I'm still spending way too much money on this game.

Anyone know how to get the windower addon Nostrum to work? It's the one that is supposed to help healers with curing and -na spells. Im not sure what it even looks like on screen but I don't see any new macro windows like its description says. I'm wondering if some other addon is preventing it from working.

Get back to me when you've 100% completed PUP; then I'll be impressed

Also on a serious note: I know DRKs are back in a big way with just how much damage they're able to put out, but in my previous experiences they've also remained colossal healing sponges. Had a pt with two DRKs in it for an ambuscade run, and the WHM could not keep up between healing the DDs and the tank. Admittedly, I think it was a RUN trying to tank a pretty physical fight, but my first thought after our failures was that the WHM was spread way too thin with how many they had to keep healed.

Bad healer, bad DDs, bad tank, or yes to all of them?

my first thought was were the DRKs swapping into that hosed up SU3 gear that makes their HP go from like 2.4k go 5.9k cause that could make a healer DUMP in a panicked way (plus it makes you take 50% more damage, which isn’t that big of a deal if you’re only WS swapping)

then again if they’re swapping into that gear they’re prob using scythes and hopefully catastrophe.

but ultimately it’s probably souleater. it’s always souleater.

they will loving suck their HP dry with soul eater and even if it’s doing reduced HP loss (i think it’s 5% with traits at 99) but with haste and triple/double attack you can seriously devour your health super fast.

was it a heavy AOE fight? if the healer was panic healing the DRKS cause they saw their HP go orange they could be wasting tons of mp completely uselessly? idk what the rune could’ve done if it was super heavy physical AOE vs magic

DRK is a fun novelty job, but Warrior is all around much more efficient at about everything.

Also I really love the new Dynamis. It's really cool that you have a 60 hour lockout on content you have to clear, on every job. It's even cooler that once you've got said clearance you can just buy your way to new gear. So either no one wants to do it, no one wants to do it (on this job), no wants to do it without their LS, or no one wants to do it again and would rather pay their way to +3 stuff.

It's just genius game design.

Good thing it's not amazing gear or even needed for all jobs. I know pld can get away with completely ignoring it. I know that doesn't excuse the design but helps mitigate the terribleness of it.

Good news! The event will now be half an hour longer. Feature a third tier of even more difficult mobs and a boss, and will be involved with a (supposedly) new rema tier weapon set that is tied into getting your crafting shield done.

I play this game too much every day. Please let me join the LS so I can be the only nerd online until I'm not. I also enjoy trying to MPK redditors on a daily basis.

I jumped back on Nasomi last night onto my level 24 RDM, I'm remembering why I quit playing last time as I attempt to run to Qufim. Everyone was just like "i can do it at level one blindfolded you'll figure it out" so wouldn't escort me, even for all my gil. I'm currently stuck near a path patrolled by a tiger and three goblims in Jugner and dunno what to do about it

lol these pricks definitely got a high level dude to escort them or they ran there with a party back in the day. That's the same reason I gave up on Nasomi too, the old school stuff doesn't work when there's not a volume of players to support it and anyone playing a 2005 era private server FFXI is going to be the worst type of person

Tbh half the fun of old school ffxi was that being even 10-20 levels higher than someone was of actual significance and you got to show off how trivial this stuff was to lowbies while you helped them so I'm not sure where this lame git gud attitude comes from

All I want to do (and have wanted to do since I was 13 and I got FFXI on the day it launched for PS2) was unlock and play the fuckin bard class but I have no idea how I'll manage that with all these unhelpful players. I have 35k gil and I already bought level 1 bard equipment, all I need is an instrument, and I even enjoy the grinding in a group.

I guess I'll try to finish teh run and if I can't make it I'll quit again

If it's anything like old ffxi the second anyone hears you want to be a career bard they'll start being suspiciously nice to you

Alternatively, if nasomi isn't a good fit for you maybe shop around for private servers? There's quite a few around these days and you might be able to find one that has more QoL while still offering a decent team/social based experience

I remember having an old LS friend help me farm my Kazham airship pass keys. This was back in 2004. He was a 40 DRK, which was pretty amazing at the time since not many people played DRK, and it was awe-inspiring watching him kill those mobs so quickly.

For real. This was a Right of Passage for all new players once they dinged 18 in the Dunes to make the run to Jeuno. Best done as a level 1 job so no fear of de-leveling if you died en route. Avoiding aggro was tantamount to early FFXI and Jugner/Battalia were great places to practice.

18? I don't think there was anything to do in Jeuno at low-levels until you hit 20 and you could get your chocobo license. And 20 was always the point where I left the Dunes behind for Qufim parties.

Probably depended on your Job but I remember going there as a mage and fighting worms at the end of the tunnel to Qufim, then move on to crabs or whatever. As a tank or melee DD would probably wait until 20, yeah.

Remember in that era of FFXI it was all about fighting IT++ mobs that took 5 minutes to kill for 200 exp because that's what JP players did and we copied them. Only after ToAU did people come around to murdering T/VT mobs as fast as possible to max exp/hr.

Oh, that's right! Melee had such a hard time dealing damage to crabs at low levels thanks to their high defense and their abilities. Most of my favorite jobs were melee so I rarely saw things from the other end.

I remember those "glory days" where ToAU endgame was chaining colibris for 10k/hour. Nowadays you can fart in the general direction of a few mobs and EXP explodes out of them.

The devs have always hated melee jobs in this game, except Samurai.

Last time I subbed I leveled up a Galka BRD/DNC that dual-wielded daggers because gently caress you I can and that combination of utility when running quests/missions was the most fun I've ever had in this game. I burned out halfway thru ToAU (doing the stories in order of release) but I'll probably re-sub again soon to finish off the remaining expansion stories.
