my guess is that since microwaves have big issues with standing waves (which is why the turntable got so popular in there) it's possible that they figured out a way to randomize things a bit more for defrosting

https://www.theverge.com/2018/7/18/17586706/amazon-tales-from-the-loop-simon-stalenhag-retro-sci-fi-art-book-tv-series Over the last couple of years, Swedish artist Simon Stålenhag has earned considerable acclaim for Tales from the Loop, a science fiction art book that juxtaposes a sense of nostalgia for the rural countryside against an alternate, futuristic past. Yesterday, Amazon ordered a series based on the book, to be adapted by Legion writer Nathaniel Halpern. Variety reports that the project will be a co-production with Fox 21 Television Studios, which was responsible for such shows as Sons of Anarchy and American Crime Story. Mark Romanek (Never Let Me Go) will direct the pilot for the show and will be an executive producer. In 2013, Stålenhag told The Verge that his art was inspired by his childhood in rural Sweden and his love of the science fiction films he watched at the time. “The only difference in the world of my art and our world is that ... ever since the early 20th century, attitudes and budgets were much more in favor of science and technology.” Sharon Tal Yguado, head of scripted genre programming for Amazon Studios, said that “Nathaniel is a gifted storyteller who shares our passion for creating soulful, human stories that push the boundaries of genre programming, and we’re thrilled to be working with him on this series.”

Crazy Achmed posted:Wait, if the complete travel from dead ahead to lock is only 90°, wouldn't that be hilariously twitchy for making minor adjustments? nope, cars have solved this with a variable ratio gearbox for the steering drive even for mechanical systems. my '97 e39 has an intentional spot about 5 degrees either side of dead center where it's a lower ratio for easy highway cruising without constant adjustments, then as you turn the wheel more and load up the steering you get more output per input. if you have electric steering you can do this all via software and tune it etc. easy

Oh, that's nice. I'd love to see the internal workings of the mechanical one In other cyberpunk news, the bbc station i listen to in my car keeps advertising an upcoming doco on privatised cities in Honduras or somewhere. I'd offer to post a trip report but listening to smarmy people talk about how awesome the idea is would raise my blood pressure too much

yep the mark of a good car is how much of the cockpit is dedicated to serving the driver. a proper car will inform the passengers that theyre just lucky to be sitting in the thing. the death of proper ergo was right around when they started giving passengers climate and radio control e36 fd s13 (this one is not canted but is still drivercentric)
