Ok maybe I should have said medical terms or something. I think toxic is a really strong term and sometimes it's used to describe an unpleasant relationship.

if you're referring to racism/sexism/homophobia in general, like on a societal level, and how people talk about those things, well, they are toxic

I think I get what you're saying I think something similar's going on withthe word "abuse" chalk it up to one part "we didn't talk about this is society for so long that we're still learning to recognize and talk about it, and an aspect of that is that we haven't developed a colloquial consensus on where a proverbial gradient crosses from light grey to dark grey" and one part "powerful expressions with specific connotations are diluted over time as people seek new ways to convey strongly held feelings through hyperbole"

Ok wow that's a very eloquent way of saying it. I wish I thought of putting it that way. As for racism sexism and homophobia, I think an example would be say you grow up in a household and community that normalizes racism and you don't even realize that it's hurting people until maybe you move away or something. There's a lot of calling stuff like that toxic and I get that it makes total sense. And then you have other scenarios where you met someone off the street and they go nuts on you and youre like "ok this person is toxic", but you don't even know them. But I guess what's happening is that you're pointing out that there's systematic whatever going on and people should be aware of it. All of this is just me being out of touch I guess. Cubone said it really well. Cory Parsnipson fucked around with this message at 21:15 on Jul 18, 2018 |

hosed family goon doesn’t have to sever, or support everyone. You can do the middle ground. Move out, deal less and less with you mum, but try to be an active person in the younger brothers life. Pick him up from school, take him places and socialise with him like a rational member of society, let him do his homework at yours without being yelled at. You can’t pull him away from the situation entirely, but you can offer him an anchor of sanity and support. And if he becomes a poo poo like them then you can tell him why and stop helping him. Family is only family when they act like it. Toxic people with similar dna aren’t family.

I blame Britney Spears personallyquote:I have an unshakable obsession with virginity. I know it really doesn't mean anything, but still when I find out a girl I like has had sex it depresses me deeply and I instantly lose interest. Just the fact that they would give themselves to someone like that, it's human weakness. Sex is nothing but a tool to manipulate people. I have had sex but only because it served a purpose. Not reproduction, either. Once you've hosed a person you can control them. People who do it for pleasure are nothing but degenerates and pawns. See thread title wow, it still works quote:My confession is I've been collection a set of weird darkweb sites. Not evil, not sick, just... weird. This one had 3 attachments: I mean, w/r/t the first two, you know you can find lovely memes on the light web without having to do all this cloak and dagger bullshit, right and the last one appears to just be a more cartoony, whimsical way to do illegal poo poo

loquacius posted:Yeah, that's why I told anon to unionize first He had two very good ideas, actually. The first was that schooling happened in the virtual world - something I absolutely believe will happen in another few generations. Imagine if every kid could go to the best schools with the best teachers - that’s a wonderful idea and I wish he had expanded on it. The second was his idea for a “game” where you got to play the role of someone in a movie. Again, that’s something I absolutely think is going to happen soon enough. Cline is a sexist gently caress though and didn’t consider how to deal with 51% of the population wanting to be the hero without being a guy, but, again, cool idea. I think we will see this in our lifetime - sell people their favorite movies as VR experiences. Agreed about the prose though. He’s a poo poo writer with a few good ideas. I also wish he’d handed them off to someone competent. Or I could just be a huge ding-dong. I just tried VR for the first time yesterday and got a stomach ache instantly. But for the nanosecond I wasn’t barfy, it was loving great. Also I’m on lots of pain meds so there’s that too. Don’t break bones, kids.

quote:2 years I was in a really bad relationship that ended with her directly getting me fired from my job and her having a miscarriage 5 months into her pregnancy. The entire situation was a nightmare that is in my past now but her getting me fired from job left me completely broke and having to move back in with my parents who live in the middle of no where in the mountains multiple hours away from any area where I could find work again. In order to find work I need to move back into an apartment but i'm completely flat broke so i'm in a catch 22 of not being able to work because there is no where near me where I can work. In order to try and fix my situation i've been teaching myself a skill I can find remote work for in order to save enough money to move so I can work again but ever since my life collapsed I have had the a really hard time getting myself back on track and improve my situation. I know the situation i was in prier broke something in me mentally because I have a really hard time thinking and behaving the way I used too prier to all of this happening, and trying to overcome it so I can get help and fix myself feels impossible almost constantly. I'm not suicidal but I am constantly overcome with this feeling of anxiety and dread about everything and I keep having to tell myself that its all in my head and that its not going to stop unless I keep pursing my plan to fix it. Usually I am good at forcing myself to push through and keep on track with learning and improving my situation but my brain is just constantly loving with me and I can't stand it. I know i'm severely depressed or something else along those lines because I don't think the way I used too and there is constantly this presence in my mind reminding me of how far i've fallen and that i'm useless that I know isn't true. It's not a separate voice or anything like that but it feels like my brain is surrounded by a cloud just slowly poisoning my brain. I just wanted to write this cause I feel that it's probably better to get myself mentally aligned again by writing down my feelings about everything I honestly don't have a whole lot of advice for you because our system is kinda broken if you don't have any resources. The only thing I can think of is that you need to find something anything to do to get back on your feet. Work a convenience store, work fast food, just anything, because (a) you need a nest egg to find an apartment somewhere else again, and (b) unemployment is obviously not having a great effect on you. quote:I’ve been in love with my best friend for almost 20 year and am too much of a pussy to tell her. Honestly it doesn't sound to me like this girl makes you any better of a person and you're actually not great for her. You really have to develop a life and personality independent of her. Trust me, a girl you have a crush on getting a boyfriend doesn't feel as bad when you have other things going on in your life. I'm gonna throw a whole bunch of thread standards at you: get therapy, don't fall in love with your therapist, get a hobby, try to get out and meet more people (hell, 40K wargaming counts). Bettering yourself is hard, but before you can make progress there you have to put yourself in a position where you don't feel like complete poo poo all the time. You're not trying to be better, you're trying to feel better. Getting hung up on a girl and embarrassing yourself at her wedding isn't going to help. Like, seriously, please don't make a scene at the wedding. Something taking balls to do doesn't automatically make it the right choice. It takes balls to rob a bank or shoot up an orphanage, but those are still horrible ideas.
