Keep in mind you gotta lure them AWAY from the truck first. Otherwise they'll destroy the balloon and do significant damage to the truck.

Oh hey! Metal Gear Solid 5 just got a 700+ MB patch!

It looks like they added the ability to play as Quiet in the definitely not completely dead FOB mode! They also added a few new gadgets (only to the vibrantly alive FOB mode of course) that I’m sure won’t take anywhere from several days to a week to grind resources for, then just as long to research.

I’m sure this update was worth probably breaking my Ultimate Phantom Pain mod compatibility, the only thing keeping this game worth the hard drive space.

Turns out that Quiet is actually way cool. She can super sprint, she can super dash, she does a slide instead of diving. She can’t combo melee a group of dudes but she has a one hit automatic knockout which is almost as great. She turns invisible if she sits still for more than five seconds. Not sure yet but she might also have stronger camo when moving about. Way cool!

Testing out Ocelot now.

More quiet notes:
-She flies up and down ladders
-The on screen instructions to dash are wrong. It says R3, but you need to L2 to sprint, then L2 again to dash
-Her dash goes something like 20m and is hard to gauge distance
-Dash is fast enough to not trigger gas mines
-I think she has natural camo? Seems like dudes have to get closer to see her than normal characters.
-As quiet as a sneaking suit naturally
-Turning will not end her invisibility, but aiming and reloading will

"A Quiet Exit" is the most annoying mission. The enemy vehicles take like fifty hits to die in this game, but the moment you get into a tank it turns into tissue paper, apparently.

Not really Gameplay related but I was watching the Outer Heaven Network marathon on Twitch last week (two weeks ago?) and god, forgot how much cool stuff was in the MSX Metal Gear 2. Also reminded my of how amazingly and consistently good the ambient music from MGS1-3 is. People talk a lot about the main themes, and the Kojima stuff and Shinkawa artwork gets a lot of attention but god, the music from like Warhead Storage or the various platforms of the Big Shell are soooo good.

I occasionally try, because I'm a sucker for co-op defense modes and the melee mechanics are kinda fun. But at least on Xbox One, it's *super* dead. At best, I can sometimes get a match with two other people after like fifteen or so minutes of searching, but other times, it just goes and goes and goes with no end in sight. Made that much worse by the fact that the lobby system is pants-on-head stupid. Why can't I craft things or mess around with the target range while I'm waiting for a match? Literally anything would be better than just staring at a "searching for players" screen.

And the matchmaking really doesn't help, since it breaks up players into like ten separate queues: do you want to play a Normal match? Or the Daily Mission on Normal difficulty? Well, I hope you choose correctly, because you can only pick one, and there's no way to tell which one is more likely to have any players. Heaven forbid that you'd be able to opt-in for multiple ones at the same time.

Matchmaking is also regionally based. There's 14 regions. :geno:

If you want to play multiplayer with any kind of ease you have to get people actively playing onto your friends list at this point.

The trick is the Skulls are not susceptible to explosives at all, but they are weak to high caliber weapons to the face.

Seriously, Lug around a high caliber sniper rifle or a revolver and you'll have a much easier time

Or you could also do like that one video from awhile back. Have Quiet as your buddy, climb the biggest tower there, and wait until she clears the entire battle area.

I recall bringing a grenade launcher and it worked okay if I could get a direct hit. I cleared the mission, at any rate. EDIT: No, wait, I think I brought a primary slot grenade launcher and an HMG in my other non-pistol slot and the HMG did the heavy lifting, sorry.

Did she have the anti-material sniper rifle you can develop for her? Her AI might have decided the Skulls were too armored to harm and chosen not to engage them. (I'm just guessing, I do not have any particular insight into the workings of the buddy AI.)

Quiet is amazing on that fight, but only if you have the anti material rifle which is late in her three.

I think quiet is underrated. Ddog is really good and easily the best, but there's a lot situations where he's useless and she's not. I think they balanced it well because you really have to give up something when you choose one over another. Figuring out the right one for the situation is fun. (Including horse and walker).

D Walker is amazing and I suggest you try to get good with him to see. He’s goofy to control at first, but he can fight, he can scout, he can sneak, he can travel faster than D horse, he does it all! The fastest times I’ve had in Back up Back down were with D Walker

Sounds like a really boring way to play the game. From what I remember back when I played, you have to actively tell her to go to specific spots before she'll decide to do anything, and that is why I ended up not really using her. Then when she does she essentially plays the game for you. DD also sort of has this problem since his marking is stupidly good, but I at least still have to sneak around guys. Horse isn't as useful all the time, but being able to ride a vehicle and use the rocket launcher was useful enough for me to use him fairly often.

This doesn't make sense to me. You roll into a spot where you told quiet to setup and she marks things and then you still have to sneak around them too. It's not that different for either of them if you're sneaking. He's just way better at marking.

I mean you can have her just start shooting guys and clear an outpost if you want alarms and everything thing I guess.

Ddog is better if you're pro and don't plan to get spotted and especially if you need to extract something he can Fulton. Quiet is a great insurance policy if you think you'll gently caress up and get spotted.

With the anti material rifle Quiet is better for most boss fights since she can actually do stuff.

Quiet can also take out choppers for you with just a grenade and her regular rifle so you can take a rifle instead of a rocket launcher.

Honestly I think most people see how you have to tell her to scout and she's limited in use and then dismiss her over dog, but those limitations are what keep her from being completely over powered.

Dog worm hole Fultoning an indoor prisoner from halfway across the outpost is pretty hosed up though. Especially since later he can KO any guards and worm hole them too. That's some playing the game for you poo poo.

E: sorry I see you were saying that in response to her clearing an outpost for you! I was still thinking in terms of her being bad.

E2: the best vehicle in the game is a jeep with a smoke bomb in it.

D Walker is the best buddy because it doesn't just act independently and mark/kill everything like D Dog and Quiet. Instead it augments your abilities and is entirely controlled by you. Want a stealthy turret to set up a killhole? A spotter you can set up on a vantage point of your choosing? A hypermobile armored vehicle capable of going toe to toe with the toughest bosses in the game? D Walker can be all those things and more.
