Davin Valkri posted:I still think you should open the game as the Allies and figure out what the heck is going on "under the hood". It seems like the game has broken systemically since Jan 1944 at least. This doesn't actually work like you might think. The game will rerun the last turn if you open it up as the other side, and it will reposition hundreds of units in doing so. The reason for this is because the AI is allowed to "Cheat" task forces, supplies, and certain ground units into existence near the front lines. This saves the AI from needing to be programmed to pre-position ships and supplies to support its offensive plans, because it would be too much of a pushover otherwise. The end result is that what's going on "under the hood" is mostly a different game than what you'd see if you loaded in as the allied player.

Fuel oils not important right? They sail their battleship back into Rabaul – this time we have ships there to meet them – I think this one may be a loss, but we'll have to see how it plays out. Another cruiser group takes out what looks to be their supply ship and escorts. We smash a task force heading towards Truk. I see no reason to stop the bombing. Another invasion of wake begins. Let's see how we did. No points, so she still might be out there.

More landing craft burn at Wake There is an inconclusive cruiser fight off Rabaul. I land some more supplies at Manus. Things continue to go well for Allied shipping. Torpedoes get the job done. Yes, I have seen we have stuck a nine foot torpedo into a destroyer called Manlove. I deign not to comment. I don't think many of these are making it home. BURN! BURN YOU BASTARDS! It's getting brutal out there. That takes the allies past 25,000 points of shipping lost. In the entire Allied game I lost 25,073 points. They will have outstripped me in a matter of days! My total ship losses were 1598, the Allies as of today have lost 1709....

2 torpedoes and a few shell hits shouldn't sink New Jersey, but would definitely slow her to a crawl. Also she's detached from her escorts. And yet no sign of her the next day?

In one of my games the New Jersey took 7 air-dropped torpedoes and survive with 93 floatation damage. Luckily only a single hex from a friendly base. Months patching what could be patched at a tiny size-1 port with a small naval support unit helping, just to crawl at 7 knots toward Sydney instead of 3. Made it 1 hex from Sydney, only to go down two torps from an I-boat that slipped by the anti-sub group and escorts.

Not quite, as we have seen several Kamikaze-class running around with Grey's main task forces on occasion - which were never upgraded to the 610mm tubes - along with several other older classes also still being used in some role, but in this specific fight you're completely correct that it had to have been long lances.

Oi sunk very close to her historical date. 20 July 1944 Destroyer HMS Isis sunk at anchor in the bay of the Seine, either by a mine or a human torpedo. German minesweeper M-20 sunk in the Gulf of Finland by Soviet aircraft. 21 July 1944 Minesweeper HMS Chamois also mined in the bay of the Seine. German minesweepers M-307 and M-413 sunk by RAF and Soviet aircraft respectively near Wilhelmshaven and Narva.

Yeah where was the air attack on the New Jersey? It was right at Rabaul. You can’t let it slip away.

Even if it's limping, most of the disgusting AA guns the NJ is covered in will still be operational so getting air hits in seems highly unlikely and probably just a waste of planes as attacking it by air has been for the last several months. Just got done catching up about 2 years of posts over the last week, and there's still no sign of my lucky sub. Starting to think the captain got the sneaky part down to a master level, but not the... Warfare.

This looks like supplies coming ashore at Wake. Bloody carriers. South of Truk we take out some more shipping. Let's hope this is an over optimistic report. We take some losses hunting the New Jersey. The men at Manus need more supplies! While Operation Charnel House is over, I see no point in stopping the bombing. Let's check out the Yamato! That's not life threatening, but she needs to head to Japan for the dry docks. It's a good news/bad news day!
