The makeup of the specific senate seats up for re-election next are such that it will be very very difficult for the democrats to regain control of the senate. Even if lots more people vote democratic than normal.

Patrick Spens posted:The makeup of the specific senate seats up for re-election next are such that it will be very very difficult for the democrats to regain control of the senate. Even if lots more people vote democratic than normal. There's also the fact that only 1/3 of the senate seats are up for election every two years, and the current crop of seats up for election are the wave of dems that got elected with Obama's second term, meaning that there are very few Republican seats up for election and a lot of Democratic ones for the Dems to potentially lose. This limits the damage a potential blue-wave can do to the Republican control of the senate. The graph/animation is still utterly incomprehensible.

So yeah, it's a real dumb chart.

And this is what I get for not reading the drat article before pontificating. They're not talking about the senate. They are talking about the house. The jist of the article is that there are very few Republican seats in democratic leaning areas, up for re-election. But yeah, chart bad.
