I do Tier 2 but it is way more advanced than any other tier 2 I’ve seen. We do a lot of database work including restores, deletes, updates, altering tables, etc. We also do a bit of deployment, software updates, some scripting, and any other issues the call takers can’t handle. I honestly feel a bit like a junior DBA with some actual support thrown in. Anything we can’t handle goes to developers, actual DBAs, or system admins. Everywhere else I’ve worked tier 2 was just all the non password reset/reboot calls and most calls were sent to other teams. Maybe some network troubleshooting or software installs but not any real work.

Well today certainly started off with a bang. My boss spoke with me this morning and said that his boss had talked to him about "responsiveness issues" in my work. Apparently there was talk about "figuring out what to do" about these concerns, which confused both myself and my boss. I haven't heard a single complaint about my work since I started here in September and I even asked if they were talking about disciplinary action. I stopped by our bosses office this morning but she's apparently on vacation all week. So I e-mailed her and copied my direct boss asking for a meeting next week to get this whole thing straightened out.

VP then went directly to CFO and 'expressed concern' that the tech wasn't capable of doing their job and was not responsive to the needs of management in the company. In my 1:1 later that day, CFO told me about the situation (he didn't know the details of the interaction and what is was regarding) and asked if I felt they were capable of doing their job. It's intentional interference and the FCC makes no exceptions for doing it on your property. They can and have issued large fines to companies using these "features". Unlicensed RF spectrum is not yours, anyone who wants to set up their own AP or tether to their phone within range of your network has the legal right to do so and you do not have the right to interfere with them over the air.

Sometimes people are dumb fuckers. Our company was doing a give away of products to employees as a tool to get rid of old inventory last week. This is cool because people get for free stuff they wanted. They gave it to a middle manager to run and that personal was authorized to put together a team to load the product into vehicles for an afternoon. They have done this before and he previous teams were mostly volunteer. The issue was that this manager went around cherry picking every strong dude they could find and chose a team member of mine, a busy dev ops guy. Once he figured out what he was chosen for he straight up told the middle manager that he wasn’t moving boxes around all day. He Came to me , told me the situation, and I agreed. Sent the manager an email saying that I am sure there are plenty of employees in other teams willing to help out and that this employee was tasked with important stuff atm. The pushback I got was enormous.

IT has collectively told them to gently caress off every single time it is asked.

Plus, now that we have a new inventory system we can do inventory in 3 hours instead of 10. Yay.

The FCC will come down on you like a ton of bricks and can potentially fine for each instance @ $50,000 per. However, you can use deauth/disassoc floods to knock wireless supplicants from connecting to your assets.

I went and talked to the CTO (my bosses boss) and he said that some people complained about how I'd have a baseball game on one of my monitors but he also said that he knew I got work done and that it was entirely an optics issue and not actually a performance one. Still incredibly frustrating since I know exactly who complained and that the reason they complained is because I didn't let them interrupt a call I was on with a VP about an issue with the phones one time.

Being part of leadership, I now enjoy lovely leadership meetings with executive management. Its directors and up, but so far that is still small enough of a group that c-levels to speak their mind without a filter. The CFO has been ranting about such candid topics like... How can we make our employees less fat? How can we encourage more employees to wear active wear unless they are fat? How can we make it harder for our employees to eat unhealthy food at work? How can we promote our fit people to use the gym at work so we can use it for promotional footage? Can we stop hiring fat people? I am learning he goes off like this for the meetings where the CEO isn't present due to travel. And for the record, the CFO isn't winning any fitness awards himself. He rocks the standard suburban dad bod that borders on obese himself. Its basically comical and sad.

IANAL, but I don't believe they can cut your pay rate without you agreeing to it. Obviously they can fire you if you don't agree, but that's still not quitting. They can also cut your hours if you're hourly, and that's functionally the same as cutting your pay.

Having a company car and phone is both a recruiting and retention tool. If the business across the street gives executives an iPhone X so do you to stay competitive. It is pretty cheap all things considered for an upgraded phone vs a cheaper one. In states like CA, employers are legally required to reimburse employees for reasonable business expenses, and higher paid employees are more often incurring these expenses.
