David Johnson is participating in training camp:

quote:

"The Cardinals want me to play for them for a long time, and I want to be here for a long time," Johnson told the team's website. "So definitely things are going in a positive way."

The fourth-year running back had skipped a June minicamp and two organized team activity practices as he sought a contract extension. Johnson is heading into the final year of his rookie contract and is due to make $1.905 million in 2018.

He said he ultimately decided against holding out from camp after discussing his options with his representatives.

"I'm here to play football," Johnson said. "I trust my agency, Sportstars, and I know they'll get it done when the time comes."

Johnson missed the majority of the 2017 season after fracturing his left wrist during Week 1.

I didn't realize he was set to make less than 2 million! As the top RB and one of the best pass catchers on the team I'd be frustrated too. Rookie contracts are so messed up

Yeah he's taking an enormous gamble, if he gets a career-ending injury this year it will have cost him a fortune. Really he ought to hold out and risk not playing a year instead.

From what I gathered he's still hoping that his agent reaches an agreement with the Cardinals and he's participating in training camp as a show of good faith. He absolutely should hold out if his contract situation doesn't change and I hope he does if that happens.

For sure the Cardinals that beat the Packers in 2016 and got to the conference championship wouldn't have sniffed the playoffs without him stepping up in a big way that season

Yeah that seems clear at this point. They're effectively moving on from all of their high-priced defensive pieces. They'd let him play the last year of his contract but they're not giving him a new one, even a one year it seems like.

Dallas also doesn't have the money to pay him what he wants, even if they convince Seattle to send him over. It'll be interesting to see what comes of this and if he's even gonna play this season.

This would be so cool, even on a higher priced one-year contract, just to see that defense play together for one year. The Rams are gonna come up against the cap hard at the end of the season anyways though, this next season is probably the only one where the Rams look like they do now with all that defensive star power.

I honestly think they are dicked for cap space completely this year after AD gets his mega contract.

That's a . . . pretty strange comparison. Gurley is super fast and a danger to take it all the way on every play. Murray was never like that and was never that good, he just played behind good lines. The Rams line played well last season but it has never been elite.

I agree though that at least one of these big contracts isn't going to work out, probably due to injury, and a lot of money will be left on the table.

I mean the FO is dumb for not just paying the man but at the same time it's extremely frustrating that Earl has been so public about this because he's basically spent the last 8-9 months destroying his trade value, maybe even his tradeability in general

He’s the best safety in football and he’s not paid like it.

Literally every goon would also negotiate a raise if they were the best employee at their company but not compensated accordingly.

Tanking his trade value doesn’t mean poo poo. The FO is at fault here. If they don’t want to pay him then they should have traded him earlier. That would have likely been a dumb move but it’d better than where we are now.

I find it interesting that all these "reports" are coming from a single Dallas-area guy. Almost like Earl is feeding him poo poo to drum up trade interest that doesn't really exist.

Lynch was interviewed by Matt Barnes on “Uninterrupted” and was asked about Carroll’s decision to throw the ball and how he feels about it three years later. His answer was fascinating.

“What certain individuals were thinking at the time is just not the situation that we needed to be in,” Lynch said. “Like should I change it? I mean Russell (Wilson thinking) should I change the situation or can I get it handled?

“At the end of the day, I’m looking at it like, I’ve seen Russell do some (expletive) that hasn’t been done before. At the end of the day, I’m not too concerned about if some [expletive] can get done, because if it’s anybody that can make some magic happen, it’s this (expletive). Because I’ve seen him do it on my occasions before. But then I mean, you know, just the honest to God truth is, sometimes I think, ‘do you think you should have audibled?’

“At the end of the day, I’m not mad at him or who called the situation or the play. But I’m going to tell you like this, when that play was called, and I saw the expression on the other 10 guys face in there, all they eyes was like, if we was in the huddle like this, and I’m standing on this side and everybody got they head down, when they heard the call, even the receivers, all they (expletive) was like, and they looked right at me. And I’m looking like *claps* break. What y’all want me to do? What happened happened, and at that point, I can realistically say I’ve done everything in the game.

“To win a Super Bowl and a lose a Super Bowl in the fashion we did lose it in, it don’t get no better for a person. All it do is test your character, and in the face of adversity, it shows who the (expletive) you is.”

Oh, certainly. There wasn't exactly much bad blood between the Seahawks and 49ers in 2004. I see it more as being weird and vaguely uncomfortable for all involved more than anything.

My uncle is a die-hard 49ers fan, and he's way more upset about them signing Sherman than I am about losing him. He doesn't seem to know what to do with the situation, hahah.
