After the updates The Division was fun outside of enemies being bullet-sponges since at high-level missions they gained abilities you had.

Bioshock Infinite had crap guns, a crap upgrade system for the guns and watered-down version of the powers IIRC. Bioshock 2 was much better than Infinite.

Hack n slash. You basically whack things with a usb stick instead of a sword and mess with the code sorta to solve puzzles. Like you can make a turtle give you health when it bites, or alter its behavior to freeze and make a bridge etc. It eventually gets pretty hard but im not a programmer. Its pretty short too but its probably cheap now.

It's the best. Zelda is cool except the N64 entries.

Mr. Nutz was a pretty good platformer that had stand out graphics and music and boss designs. People shat on it at the time for being a mascot platformer but I think it's a great game.

Gunpei Yokoi offbrand Mario is better than most mainline Mario and I wish they'd still use the enemies from the Land games. Super Mario Land is basically the perfect portable game and the bouncing superball is a great mechanic, Mario also controlled really well judging by how speedrunnable it is even by a novice.

Link to the Past is not that good. I don't know why people go on and on about how it's a timeless, great game. The replay value is near zero. It's not like you miss tons of stuff on your first playthrough, or miss out on side quests (there aren't any). The original LoZ is actually better in that regard. Still tedious but once you know where all the heart containers are, you can get the white sword and magic sword much more quickly, plus there's the second quest, and it's easy to skip getting the sword. Have you tried fighting all those Darknuts with only bombs? That's a replay right there. Original LoZ is also way more challenging than LttP. The later dungeons are brutal even for seasoned players. I've heard people say they love LttP soooo much and replay it often. I don't get it. It's an old game that has not aged well.

Ocarina of Time is better than LttP in every way. More and better puzzles. More exciting and strategic combat. Dungeons are way more interesting. The Forest Temple and Water Temple are tours-de-force in dungeon design. Majora's Mask scores even better on replayability since there's a fuckton of side quests and secret scenes. OoT has its weaknesses, namely lame bosses which are too easy to beat, the dumb thing about switching tunics all the time, and pointless items like the Ice Arrows, Deku Nuts, and magic spells besides the fire spell.

Btw have you guys ever played real, non-simpleton card games like Bridge, Skat, or Cribbage? That's my definition of "replay value": can I play this game every week for a year and still love it? I'd rather die than play LttP more than once every 10 years.

I never got the hatred for the boss fights either. At least they were interesting. For me, HR's main sin is just how loving boring the world is. In Deus Ex you fight through Liberty Island, an undersea laboratory, the Paris catacombs, Area 51, a cathedral, an ICBM silo, a massive container ship, etc. Your enemies start out as bog standard gunmans but then you get to cyborgs with rocket launchers for arms, genetically engineered mutants, psionic aliens, men in black that explode when you kill them...

In HR you spend 90% of the game in slums and office complexes full of desks, fighting the same Small, Medium, and Large mercs. Occasionally they'll throw one of those box robots at you that immediately dies to the EMP grenade you throw at it while it's transforming. This and the fact that everything you read / see / hear characters talking about seems to revolve around human augmentation makes the world feel incredibly small and dull. Why they chose to make a prequel to Wacky Conspiracy Superspy: The Game that's played completely straight is beyond me. Invisible War, despite its many many flaws, at least had cool poo poo like the Omar.

Also Adam Jensen is a depressing drip while JC Denton is hilarious and likeable despite (because of?) his nano aspergers.

other than your extremely questionable defense of the boss fights this is a good opinion

Guns aren't satisfying to use except the gravity gun but even that wears out its welcome, main pistol is a peashooter. Enemy AI is dumb, story has nothing to do with the original game and feels like something completely different with Half Life stuff tacked on. Most of the unique stuff from the trailer (camera stuff, more interactive objects) aren't actually in the game, level designs too open, too many tedious gravity gun puzzles, zombies aren't fun to kill and come in too great numbers, the number of dark and spooky areas is too great and ravenholm is just a series of set pieces with a single solution every time, the shotgun isn't anything like the great HL shotgun. The Ichtyosaurus, the best enemy in HL1, isn't even in the game (this is also the big problem with Black Mesa: it doesn't have the scary Ichty sound). There's a few good moments but that's it really, first game is on an entirely different level.

EP1 was even worse with the platform jumping in the beginning and the tedious loving endless zombie sewers that came right after. I never got to EP2.

I'm just saying, there's a nonzero chance Trump has a really toad penis.
HL1 had:

-A good melee weapon, the crowbar
-A pea shooter, the pistol
-Two daily-driver weapons (the MP5 and the shotgun) you spend most of the game carrying that are both fine.
-Two overpowered single-shot weapons without enough ammo to use for an extended period of time (magnum and crossbow) but enough lying around that you had at least a few shots with on you for a lot of the second half of the game
-Two Weird Science lab guns that were fun to play with but again, very limited ammo (the needler type thing and the laser hose)
-Snarks! A good, underused idea great for harassing Marines
-Three separate placed explosives - grenades, laser mines (!), and satchel charges (!!!)
-A guided rocket launcher basically issued to you when you need kt

HL2 is a good game, but its weapon lineup is indefensible in comparison. The daily driver SMG feels like a pea shooter, there's never enough shotgun ammo, and that bigger machine gun feels like an apology for the SMG. Throwing environmental clutter at enemies with the gravity gun isn't good combat. The snarks are gone, the antlions only show up in areas clearly defined as "use antlions here," and the rocket launcher is basically the same. There are no fun, weird guns. An FPS needs fun, weird guns.

I haven't played HL2, but I remember watching some footage like a year ago and thinking it didn't age well at all.

HL1 holds up pretty well, though, on account of being a pretty straightforward series of environmental puzzles.

The Canadians replied that they would rather ride a moose.
Civilization VI is without doubt the worst Civ game ever released. The game's mechanics actively punish you for trying to specialise your civ towards any particular direction and it pretty much forces you to play it the way it wants, which is the opposite of the point of a Civ game. It has completely given up any pretence of simulating history and instead it feels like playing a really boring board game. The cartoony graphics don't help either. It's just a bunch of game mechanics thrown together for you to interact with and has no immersive qualities at all.

Example: Archery costs 40% more to research unless you kill a unit with a slinger. Don't need a slinger? Have one that didn't get the last hit in on a barbarian? gently caress you, arbitrarily pay 40% more research for archery. So you end up building a slinger out of obligation and managing some random battle with barbarians so that it gets last kill, to avoid being penalised. There is one of these arbitrary requirements for every single technology in the game, making you go out of your way to do something you might not otherwise do just to avoid having your research punished. You know, like real leaders didn't.

Example: You can't even build your own roads until like 1600. Instead, trade units build their own roads as they go. This is to force you to use the trade units - like every other mechanic in the game, it makes you do one of everything or get punished. And you end up not making trade routes with any other civilisations simply so you can build a road network between your cities. You know, like ancient empires didn't.

Also they took out 2/3 of the Civs and added them as paid DLC, so gently caress that.

I think of HL1 as basically Duke Nukem 3D in real 3D, it had all of the fun playful weapons Duke had, like the laser mines, but with better enemies and environments.
