Japolik is full of poo poo bcuase the real story is closer to this as one poster there points out

quote:

Fossi is the lawyer and director for Stewart Rahr’s tax avoidance foundation. Rahr made his billion by scamming the American medical system through overcharging for drugs.

Rahr is one of Trump’s best friends:

http://eqs.fec.gov/eqsdocsMUR/13044334609.pdf

Rahr does have some deep links to the oil industry:

https://www.data.bsee.gov/PDFDocs/Scan/ADJUD/73/73978.pdf

The Rahr foundation likes to bank with the vampire squid and Blackhill capital.

http://www.foundationsearch.com/990/LATEST/2/STEWART%20J%20RAHR%20FOUNDATION%202016%20274275648.PDF

Blackhill has some oil investments, but most of their position seems to be devoted to Williams Sonoma for some odd reason:

https://www.holdingschannel.com/13f/blackhill-capital-inc-top-holdings/

Fossi isn’t some bartender who blogs on the side or even a retired fund manager in Montana keeping busy by getting into internet flame wars. He is a working professional: a lawyer and a fund manager. There is a reason he hid his name and when de-anonymized, shut everything down and stopped posting. His constant barrage against Tesla (including driving a reporter off twitter for daring to write a positive review of the Model 3) could get the SEC to investigate if he was running a “short and distort” scam. That would get the feds sniffing into Rahr’s books, which I’m sure no one at the foundation wants. If Rahr is anything like his orange buddy, I bet those books are full of vulnerabilities.

Facebook down 20% , says privacy is bad for profits and nobody likes Stories.

quote:

Facebook's stock plunged 20% Thursday morning after the company said it expects revenue growth to slow as it "puts privacy first" and rethinks its product experiences.
...
During a conference call with analysts, Facebook CFO David Wehner said sales growth may decline as the company prioritizes new formats like Stories and offers users "more choice around privacy."

Wehner said a focus on "putting privacy first" in its product development process will likely "have some impact on revenue growth." Complying with sweeping new data protections in Europe also will have a "modest impact" on growth.

At the same time, Facebook expects its expenses to grow. Wehner said the company will invest "billions of dollars per year" improving safety and security after a bruising period of headlines about Facebook's role in enabling fake news and election meddling. "We think that's the right thing to do for the business," he said.

"We can just have people do it, no duh" seems like the sort of plan someone would naively come in to a company thinking they had figured out the magic bullet solution that everyone else was too dumb to see then realizing that 8000+ tweets go up per second, 100,000 facebook statues and 300 hours of youtube per minute and any "we can just hire people to handle it!" is totally unworkable on any large social network. Especially on some plan we will subjectively have people eyeball and use judgement to classify things to do it better than a computer.

Just make free social network accounts illegal. That'd make it harder to run bots and weed out the chaff just like the :10bux: does here.

That said, nothing is too big to moderate, you just need to throw more people at the problem. That said, it can be too big to moderate with the level of profit their making off ads, in which case, make em charge a fee or find some way of covering the cost.

It's not societies job to make sure that the right thing is profitable. If social networks can't stay afloat with out paying for a lot of people to babysit them, or broken 'AI's that will never come, then maybe we as a society don't actually need them in the first place.

It's not too big to moderate but it is why a dumb "we just gotta hire enough people!" is naive. Even a million full time moderators would barely make a dent trying to watch every youtube video, and that is why community and automated tools need to be a part of a large thing like youtube or facebook.

Moderating stuff as a full time job also literally gives people PTSD. I forget where I read it but apparently Facebook actually hires a few councilors for the moderators they do have as people can't seem to help but upload abhorrent things on the reg. That job basically requires that you stare at the worst of humanity all day.

It's apparently about 90% actual loss since Wednesday, since they just did a reverse stock split that pushed their stock price from 9 cents a share to :20bux: so nasdaq wouldn't delist them.

Random rear end in a top hat posted:

That's really all I want, too. I'm not 100% convinced it could actually happen with a full human team because of the sheer volume (30 reports is what? 1% of the D&D post volume? Facebook has like a million total posts a minute or something like that, 1% of that is still 10k posts/minute to go through so they'd need 834 employees on duty around the clock at minimum if they can somehow fully process 1 report every 5 seconds). But even trying and failing is better than the present situation
